At Relay For Life communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against this vicious disease. I would like to extend an invitation to all cancer survivors and supporters to join us in our battle against this disease.

Join us on March 23, 2014 from 2:00pm to 2:00am at Gosman as we unite to celebrate hope and life. We want to celebrate you, our inspiration who remind us why we Relay, to fight this disease by putting a real face to the term “survivor.” For more information or to participate, please e-mail Emily Greenwald at greeemi@brandeis.edu. Thank you so much, and we look forward to Relaying with you at Brandeis!!

Hundreds of members of the Brandeis community relay at this annual event. Here are some reasons why they relay:

1. I relay for members of my family have been affected by cancer- Ethan Levy‘15

2.I relay because I have seen people suffer through and beat cancer and there is no way someone as fortunate as myself can just do nothing about it- Rosie Ettinger ‘17

3. I relay to hope that I will never lose another friend to cancer- Rachel Weissman ‘15

4. I relay because it’s the right thing to do- Michael Secular ‘15

5. I relay because it’s a good thing to do. I think it’s easy to become comfortable with the idea of cancer because it is (unfortunately) so commonplace. Relay reminds us that this is something that affects our friends and families and isn’t just a colored ribbon- Katy Lehmann ‘16

6. I relay for my best friends mom- Trevor Tuplin ‘16

7. I relay to take the time out of my day and walk to support those who have suffered and are currently suffering from cancer- Alexa Katz ‘14

8. I relay for the cause. So many people will get cancer in their lives and there’s hope to one day find a cure- Heather Barash16

9. I relay for my family members who have passed from cancer as well as many of my best friends who have been affected, its something that disrupts and destroy lives- Michelle Fry ‘15

10. I relay because it helps those in need- Shaquan Perkins

11.  I relay because I want to beat cancer- Emily Goldenberg ‘16

12.  I relay for my grandmother and for my future- Samantha Gordon ‘14

13. I relay for family, everyone’s and not just my own- Sandra Luo ‘15

14. I relay for those who lost and are fighting the battle with cancer- Goldyn Bel ‘16

15. I relay for my grandma Coots who overcame cancer twice- Alec Siegel ‘15

Andrea is a sociology major with minors in journalism and women's and gender studies. She is currently finishing her senior year at Brandeis University. She was born and reared in Los Angeles, CA, which does mean that she is a die-hard Laker fan… Sorry Bostonians. When Andrea is not routing on her favorite basketball team, she dedicates her time to her many passions. They include reading and writing about fashion, traveling, exploring new restaurants, spending time with friends, watching reality television (she has a weak spot for Bravo), shopping, and working out.
