Campus Abuzz about Eco Grounds Café

By Emily Becker
October 4, 2012 - 9:35pm

All over Brandeis campus, the recent dining buzz is about the new coffee shop, the Eco Grounds Café, which has now opened in Farber Library. Even with the other coffee shops spread out over campus, the new Eco Grounds Café has the most pull for students. Conveniently located on the first floor of the Goldfarb Library, students have easy access if they need a study break or are running across campus to a class and don’t want to wait on the busy lines at Einstein’s and then run back to the science center.

Beauty 101: When to Toss Out Your Make-Up

By Betty Revah
September 22, 2012 - 3:50pm

I think it’s safe to say that 99% of the girl population, myself included, know the name of the nail polish they are wearing and could probably tell you what their favorite lip gloss is. What they might not know however, is when they bought them. Who here knows exactly when all of your beauty products expire? If you’re part of this group and don’t remember how long you’ve been using your beloved mascara or your favorite blush, it’s time to say adios! Trust me, when it comes to makeup it’s better to be safe than sorry, especially if any one of your products has the potential to create an infection later on.

Most useful Brandeis app? Guidebook!

By Emily Beker
September 20, 2012 - 11:18pm

Paperback guidebooks for locations and universities are slowly disappearing. With the release of the Guidebook app, Brandeis students can look to their smartphones for important campus-related information. The app is really useful, so downloading it is a no-brainer to download. There are four easy steps to download it: 1. Search “Guidebook” in the app store search bar. 2. Click “install.” (It’s free!) 3. Give your Apple ID password. 4. Once it is installed and you open the app, tap “download guides,” select “schools,” and search “Brandeis” in the search bar. Boston Fashion Week: Emerging Trends Fashion Show

By Alice Zhu
September 20, 2012 - 11:02pm

Now that New York Fashion Week is over, its lesser-known sister, Boston Fashion Week, kicks off Sept. 27 and lasts until Oct. 6. Boston Fashion Week was founded in 1995 as an opportunity for local designers to showcase their collections. Boston’s fashion industry is not nearly as large as New York’s, and fashion week is a way for the industry to develop and gain visibility. It was not until last year that Boston Fashion Week got its own tent, comparable to the tent in Bryant Park, where New York Fashion Week was held more than two years ago.

Speed Up Your Morning Routine

By Rachel Gomes-Casseres
September 2, 2012 - 10:34pm

Were you up late last night finishing a paper (or really, just procrastinating a paper…), and now getting to that 8am class seems impossible? When you really need those extra minutes of sleep (or are just running late…) here are some tips to shorten your morning routine. Let the water run. I don’t advocate for wasting water; however, I don’t advocate for wasting time, either. If it takes the water a few minutes to warm up, use that time to do another part of your routine, like flossing your teeth or combing your hair. READ MORE

My Summer on a Kibbutz

By Cecilie Gromada
September 1, 2012 - 7:16pm

This summer I went to Israel and lived on a kibbutz (a communal farm or factory settlement) for three months. I wanted to go abroad, but I didn’t have a lot of money to travel. I also wanted to live in a foreign country and interact with the people, not just visit as a tourist. Although my family isn’t Jewish, both my dad and my aunt traveled to kibbutzim when they were my age. I grew up looking at pictures and hearing their stories, and this summer I finally decided to make the trip myself. READ MORE
