Meet the Staff: Tyffany English ’19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Name: Tyffany English

Year: 2019

Hometown: Buford, Georgia

Majors: Economics and C.A.S.T.  (Creativity, Arts, and Social Transformation)

Minor:  Sociology

Her Campus: What attracted you to Brandeis?

Tyffany English: I received the Posse Scholarship, so what initially attracted me most was the fact that I knew I would always have my family (Posse) with me. And then Brandeis Cheerleading became sort of an obsession for me on campus. I really love it!

HC: What activities are you involved in on campus?

TE: I’m on the Brandeis Cheerleading team, and this upcoming year I’ll be the Public Relations and Event Coordinator. Both basically involve the things I adore: posting cute pictures, communicating with people, and planning fun events. I’m also on Platinum Step. I love it because I feel like it incorporates dance and teamwork that I’ve never experienced before. And, of course, I’m on Her Campus. Blogging and pictures all in one?!?!? YES! I can blog what I feel passionate about and what I’m interested in. I hope one day to intern at their headquarters.

HC: What has been your favorite Brandeis memory so far?

TE: Cheer Competition. We won first place! I felt so close to people and we did so well. I can’t wait to do it for another 3 years.

HC: What advice do you have for incoming first years?

TE: Try everything. Experience things you never thought you would be interested in. I never thought I would cheer, and now it’s my favorite club. Also, DON’T BE AFRIAD TO SAY NO! It’s easy to become overwhelmed in doing everything, but don’t forget to choose what you love and what is most important to you.

HC: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

TE: Working at a creative company: hopefully along the lines of fashion, makeup, social media, or even all the above. I want to be head or director of the creative department or the events department. I also see myself as a family woman—doing it all, like Wonder Woman. I mean, I know I can do it. I just can’t forget that I can do and be anything, even if the world tells me otherwise.

Quick Facts:

Secret Talent: I can move one of my eyes on its own! Yes… I know it can be weird…but who cares?

Favorite Movie: Memoirs of a Geisha

Favorite Spot on Campus: IBS building, second floor. It has an amazing view! And it’s a great place to be during the fall and spring for studies.

Favorite Song of the Moment: “Hands to Myself”- Selena Gomez

Favorite Boston Attraction: Museum of Fine Arts

Favorite Class at Brandeis: Microeconomics

Prized Possession: My heart ring my family gave me as a graduation present and my Predator ring. I NEVER take these off!

Mya is a sophomore at Brandeis University. She is an Education major with minors in African and Afro-American Studies and Anthropology. When she’s not writing, you can find Mya playing for the Brandeis women’s soccer team or attempting to navigate Boston. She also enjoys dancing and is a firm believer that what she lacks in technique she can make up in enthusiasm. She’s originally from sunny South Florida and can frequently be seen sporting her winter coat indoors. Follow her on Instagram @myagoodman for sporadic postings of her life!
I am a double major in Anthropology and International/Global Studies with a minor in Creativity, the Arts, and Social Transformation at Brandeis University. As a native Southern Californian, I have a born passion for avocados and an innate dread of cold weather. In my free time I love cooking (with avocados of course), drawing and writing.
