Year: Freshman

Hometown:

Antoine Malfroy: Arlington, MA

Ryan Gebhardt: Long Island, MA

Austin Koenigstein:: Long Island, MA

Her Campus: So how did you guys meet?

Froy Steinhardt: Austin and Antoine are roommates, and then we met Ryan through a mutual friend

HC: How did you guys decide to start a band?

FS: Antoine and Austin had been jamming over the year, and then Antoine started playing with Ryan, and we all knew each other. So then after Christmas break we decided to make a band and start playing gigs and writing music together.

HC: Where do you guys practice?

FS: We try to play in Slosberg, and we mostly play in there because we record in Slosberg. Otherwise we practice in Antoine and Austin’s room up in North.

HC: Where do you guys perform? On campus or off campus?

FS: We just did our first on campus performance in Chums for SEA coffeehouse. We’re also trying to play sometime soon for WBRS and we’ll be in Battle of the Bands for DEIS Impact Day in April! We’ve also played at some random places in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville.

HC: Have any of you been in a band before?

FS: Antoine’s been in orchestra and Ryan and Austin were both in bands in high school.

HC: When did you guys start playing musical instruments?

FS: Ryan started playing guitar when he was 8, Antoine plays Bass and Cello at 5, and Austin started guitar at 10. We all sing, but Austin and Ryan have done the solos so far in our songs.

HC: Would you say you have a fan base on campus?

FS: We have people who are interested in our music and our upcoming events, but were still trying to spread the word to get a strong fan base. This summer, we’re hopinh to play in Boston in the summer and we might do some collaborations and gigs with Austin’s old band.

HC: Do you have a “greatest hit” yet?

FS: We debuted a song two weeks ago called Breakthrough, and people really liked, and people have been humming it so we really want to record that one so it can become a “hit”. We have recordings of some of our music on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/FroySteinhardt

Who’s your favorite artist?

FS: Ryan’s would have to be The Beatles, Austin’s is Radiohead, and Antoine’s is Marvin Gaye

HC: What kind of music does Froy Steinhardt play?

FS: We don’t really know yet. We’re different kinds of songwriters, but we guess were alternative. There’s also some jazz, blues, and funk in there. We’re looking to see where it goes.

HC: What’s your inspiration?

FS: We guess we’re inspired by just our daily lives. Some of our songs are sort of inspired by girls. Weirdly enough Austin’s song is more inspired by girls but he’s not in a relationship. But they’ll be about anything really and inspired by different things.

HC: What are your songs mostly about?

FS: They vary. One’s about love, they are vague, angsty. “Sweet Dreams” is a peaceful love song and “Freaky” is comical. Our music is basically about whatever people our age think about

HC: Who writes your songs?

FS: Austin and Ryan mostly write the songs but we all are songwriters.

HC: What do you guys do besides play in Froy Steinhardt?

FS: Antoine and Austin are in Voicemail. Austin has been in two plays. Ryan does Club Soccer. Antoine is a Leonard Bernstein Fellow and a ZBT member

HC: What do you do when you’re trying to have fun?

FS: Well we do love the brandeis party scene here…

HC: Do you have a performance coming up?

FS: We have Battle of the Bands in April, but we might be in some upcoming coffeehouses. We’re also going to be playing on WBRS and we might perform that in the SCC Atrium.

HC: Weird fact about the band?

FS: We’re all left handed
