Dear Sofie: Human Pickle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Dear Sofie,

My three best friends are involved in a triangle right now. Two girls and one guy. My friend, we’ll call her O, is dating my best guy friend, we’ll say he’s G. She is in love and he is too. Or I thought. My other best friend, F, used to have a thing with G and is still in love with him. She got drunk and hooked up with him last night.  They didn’t just make out but they didn’t have sex. WHAT DO I DO? I will ruin the whole dynamic if I say anything.  But I can’t let O go untold.  Help me.

Sincerely,

Human Pickle

Dear Human Pickle,

The first thing you should do is talk to G and F.  If they are really your best friends you can tell them your dilemma [which they should understand] and ask them to tell O what happened.  Make sure they know that, if they don’t tell her, you will have to.  This is the most efficient way to handle a situation like this; it’s not too messy.  With your ultimatum, along with some guilt, I’m sure G and O will agree that they should tell her.  They might be a little aggravated with you initially, mostly because they were caught and now have to deal with the penalties. If they refuse to be truthful with her and beg you to keep their secret, you’ll have to consider your principles.  It may be a hackneyed method, but is the best way to make a tough decision.  Would you want someone to tell you if your boyfriend was being unfaithful?  I understand the “pickle” you’re in, but she does deserve to know.

Sincerely,

Sofie
