5 Ways to Celebrate Spring Early

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

March 20th marks the first day of spring, but why wait until then to start having fun? Read on for five things to do this month to celebrate the soon-to-come warm weather.

1. Plant flowers.

Bring spring indoors by making a miniature garden on your windowsill. Pick up a pack of seeds and some jars, recycled containers, or cute little pots and you’re good to go.

2. Eat fresh.

As the temperatures rise (slowly but surely), lots of more local fruits and veggies will be in season. Head to a restaurant that places an emphasis on fresh and clean ingredients, like Pressed in Beacon Hill.

3. Go for a walk.

…Not just from your dorm to your classes, but one you can really enjoy. Try going all the way around Loop Road, or walk into Waltham to do your errands instead of taking the BranVan. Especially with all of the middle of the semester stress, some fresh air will do you good.

4. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Boston’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will take place on March 19th, complete with traditional Gaelic music and all the Boston cheer you can imagine.

5. Go Café Hopping

Café hopping is the perfect activity for when temperatures are still hovering in that kind of warm, still kind of cold zone. Stroll through the beautiful city streets, then step inside for a nice warm cup of coffee and a treat once you start to get chilly again. Continue until your body can handle no more caffeine.

I am a double major in Anthropology and International/Global Studies with a minor in Creativity, the Arts, and Social Transformation at Brandeis University. As a native Southern Californian, I have a born passion for avocados and an innate dread of cold weather. In my free time I love cooking (with avocados of course), drawing and writing.
