Things to Do When You’re Having a Bad Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

We’ve all been there at one point or another. Something unexpected happens and it suddenly turns what you thought would be an alright day into an awful one. Maybe even sometimes you just wake up and you are instantly not feeling it. Good news is that you can do things to try and get your day back on track.

  • Listen to music

I find that music has the amazing ability to change how you’re feeling. Simply just turning on songs that you enjoy can turn your whole day around. If you’re having trouble finding the right music then just try searching for either happy or upbeat song playlists on YouTube or Spotify.

  • Exercise

It’s no secret that exercise makes you feel good. This is especially true when you’re having a rough day. Just going for a simple walk can greatly improve your mood and your day.

  • Do something you enjoy doing

You may be thinking this sounds like a no-brainer but most of the time, at least in my personal experience, when you’re having a bad day, you just feel like curling up in bed and not doing anything. But doing an activity you enjoy, such as painting or writing, can help get your mind off of what’s bothering you.

  • Clean

This may seem like an odd thing to have on the list but hear me out. Sometimes you just need to do something to get your mind off of what might be bothering you. Cleaning is a productive way to channel your frustrations and put all that energy to good use. Plus, it might also get something off your to-do list so you won’t have to do it when you’re feeling better.

  • Think of 5 things you’re thankful for

Sometimes the secret to making your day better is by putting into perspective the good things you have in your life. For some people it might be hard at first to think of things so I’ll start you off with one: puppies. You can also write the things you’re thankful for down on paper or on your phone and save them to look at when you’re experiencing another bad day.
