National Holidays We Wish Existed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, literally, not every collegiette is looking forward to all the gooey, mushy, romantic sentiments that will be expressed all over campus on February 14th. Or, if you’re like me, you think love and appreciation for your family, friends and significant others should be expressed year-round, not just on one specific day because Hallmark tells us to. So, as a solution, HC has created a few holidays that should be added to our calendars and celebrated annually!

Dress Like a Disney Princess Day
Seriously, who doesn’t want to look and feel like our favorite princess from childhood? Arial’s seashell bra, Cinderella’s glass slipper, Rapuzel’s long and flowy hair — those girls knew how to dress! So, why not put away our tired yoga pants and transform into the princesses we always wanted to be? It’s like Halloween but with less calories and more compliments.

Annual Snow Day

But, really. How much are we enjoying our snow days this semester?! We totally understand that we pay for our college education but is getting our money’s worth out of one or two classes more important that say…our own safety or the welfare of drivers on the road? So, like highschool, we think Bloomsburg should allot one or two days built into the schedule for unforeseen causes (floods, hurricanes…we’re sensing a pattern here) and just let us have those days to sit in our dorms, houses or apartments with a cup of hot cocoa and a movie.

National Cupcake Day

Need we go on?

Appreciate Your Intern Day
How many of you collegiettes had internships last semester or last summer? Did you spend a lot of your time fetching coffee or picking up dry cleaning? We all know that some employers can take advantage of their interns which is why there should be a day to recognize all the unpaid work we contribute to our employers. Obviously, the experience we gain is priceless but that doesn’t mean we need to be trivialized. So, here’s to Appreciate Your Intern Day!

Girl Scout Cookie Day
Is it just us or have Girl Scout cookie prices gone up since we were selling them? I know it’s for a great cause  – teaching girls money managment and interpersonal communication skills – but seriously, we can’t afford to support our cookie-addiction these days. Therefore, National Girl Scout Cookie Day would ensure free boxes of those deliciously small and fattening cookies for everyone!

Cuddle With Shelter Animals Day
Those of us with pets at home know the miraculous effect of cuddling on your overall mood. But unfortunately for some of us, those beloved pets are miles away! Studies show that petting animals is a proven stress reliever and is there anything animals love more than love and attention? To solve so many of these problems, we think local shelters should bring some of their residents to come hang out with us on campus during midterms and finals.

National Netflix-Binge Day
It’s 3:00 on a Saturday and you’re 5 episodes into Breaking Bad Season 3 with no sign of movement coming from your bed. We’ve all been there. Now, you can binge guilt-free! Once a day is created that allows us to catch up on all our favorite shows or find new obssessions, all will be right with the world!

Her Campus Day!
Take the day to catch up on your Her Campus reading list!
