True Life: I’m Celebrity Obsessed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

I hate when people look down on me for being obsessed with celebrities. Who cares if I invest a lot of my time in what other people are doing or wearing? I love knowing what crazy outfit Miley Cyrus is flaunting around at an award show, and I eat up celebrity gossip like no other. Is that such a crime? No. I don’t think that it is.

Celebrities intrigue me for so many reasons. They’re beautiful, talented (most of them), and have lives that are far more interesting than my own. I live for celebrity news. Whether you think that’s normal or not, I don’t really care.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder dated for a few years before calling it quits. It’s not even like they can escape each other; they are co-workers and love interests on “The Vampire Diaries.” Am I the only one who wonders what the dynamic between them is on set? How about we discuss Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber? Selena dumped the Biebz and isn’t looking back despite his pleads, tweets, and mentions in his newest song “Heartbreaker” that is surely about his ex. I love seeing how far these celebrities are willing to go when it comes to outing people in the public eye.

Taylor Swift is the queen of starting drama. It’s so fun for me to listen to her songs and figure out which guy each song is about. It could be Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Harry Styles… the list goes on and on and on. Taylor made a name for herself, and it’s not a good one. Now, she’s known as being the problem in relationships because of the way she’s always with a new guy. Who is crazy enough to date her? That’s a question that I ask myself a lot. You don’t care? That’s fine, but don’t tell me that it’s stupid for me to care.

The Jonas Brothers are currently having trouble with their music, and that breaks my heart. I’ve been a fan since the beginning, and I’ve endured years of being made fun of for it. I love Nick, Joe, and Kevin more than I love most famous people. I know every word to every song and have seen them numerous times in concert. They will forever be my favorite band, and I will never let anyone else’s comments get in my way.

So, I’m obsessed with celebrities. Is that a problem? I don’t think so. I want to turn my love for these celebs into a career. Journalism and social media are my passions, and I want to tweet, blog, and talk about famous people for as long as I possibly can.
