Spice Up Your Fall Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Fall is officially here, which means it’s time to start pulling out the layers that we tucked away in preparation for the colder months ahead. There are many new trends for the fall season, so it can be hard to keep up with what they are and where to find them, especially with a collegiette’s hectic schedule.

If you want to add a few, key trend pieces for fall, we’re here to help. We have picked our top five favorite, trendy, and budget friendly pieces for the fall 2012 season.

1. Oxblood

The fall runways promised us that oxblood would be the “it” color of fall 2012 and they did not lie. It’s the hottest hue to have in our closets right now and it’s currently one of the easiest trends to find. It can be found at almost any clothing store, on a range of items from blouses to pants to shoes. The deep, rich color is great for spicing up the typical neutral wardrobe found in the fall.

2. Printed Pants

Printed pants are currently the hottest trend in the trouser trade. Graphic-printed bottoms can be the perfect addition to any basic ensemble. This trend can be found in an array of patterns. Whether you like, polka dots, floral, or stripes, you’re sure to find a pair to fit your style. For a day filled with classes, a pair of these eye-catching bottoms looks great paired with a simple top. For a night out, try pairing them with a bright-colored blouse or bold heels.

3. Baroque

Who would have ever guessed that dressing like Louis XIV would be one of the biggest fall trends for 2012? Centuries later, we have finally realized he knew a little something about style. While this trend may seem a bit difficult for a college student to wear because of the ultra-luxe look it provides it is actually surprisingly simple to incorporate into everyday outfits. You don’t need to be a royal to make this trend work for you.

4. Parkas

Designers across the board had their models donning parkas on the runway for the A/W12 shows. As one of the most practical trends for the chilly months ahead, it can also provide a relaxed and cozy look to your wardrobe. Although the parka has been around for decades, this year it can be found in a variety of colors and styles. Olive green and camel parkas with fur and leather details can add an edge to any outfit worn on a freezing, fall day.

5. Velvet

Remember when you were younger and got to wear frilly little dresses for the holidays? Most likely they were made in velvet. This season velvet is making its biggest comeback since its last stint of popularity in the mid-‘90s. While we may be a little older now, we can still rock one of our favorite childhood looks in more grown-up ways including body-con dresses, pants and accessories.

What are you favorite trends for this fall? We would love to hear from you!
