Outfits For Every Internship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Summer is right around the corner and with students leaving Binghamton in a short week, it’s almost summer internship season. All internships are different and so are the outfits worn to each one, so here are some outfit suggestions, whether you’ll be interning at a business, in fashion, or for a music company.

Business

Business interns should keep their outfit choices reserved. Don’t wear something loud that will disrupt the work environment, but don’t make your go-to outfit a Hilary Clinton pantsuit either. Pencil skirts and dress pants that are tailored to fit your body perfectly are a good start. From there you can add a simple shirt and throw a cardigan or a blazer over it. Remember that if you’re wearing a tank top, it’s important to keep your shoulders covered and to not expose any undergarments. This could be your future workplace someday so it’s important to make a good first impression! As for shoes, a simple pump or ballet flats will do the trick!

H&M Pencil Skirt- $24.95 (Also comes in Red, Beige, and Dark Blue)

H&M Butterfly-Sleeve Blouse- $24.95 (Also comes in Powder Pink, Dark Blue, Spotted White, and Yellow)

H&M Pumps- $34.95 (Also comes in Leopard Print and Powder Pink)

H&M Ballet Flats- $12.95 (Also comes in Beige, White, Dark Blue, Floral White, Brown, and Powder Pink)

Fashion

So you just landed your dream internship at your favorite fashion magazine! Only problem is, you have NO idea what to wear. Fashion internships give you more freedom to express yourself in your clothing choices than business internships do. You can play with fun and colorful prints and can combine trendy pieces such as floral dresses and blazers to look both professional and cute. You can also pair some patterned skinny jeans with a simple top and cardigan for a more comfortable look!

Urban Outfitters Pins and Needles Tie-Strap Tank Dress- $59.00

Necessary Clothing Brunch Blazer- $45.99 (Also comes in White, Neon Pink, and Yellow)

H&M Wedge-Heel Sandalettes- $39.95

Tobi Artist Bouquet Jeans- $31

H&M Kimono- $29.95

H&M Crocheted Flats- $14.95 (Also comes in Black, White, and Orange)

Music

Music internships, like fashion internships don’t require serious business attire, however, it’s very important to maintain professionalism. It’s also good to keep in mind that with a music internship you may find yourself in an office one day and at an outdoor concert venue the next, so having outfits prepared for each setting would be a smart idea. In the office, skinny jeans with a nice top and a cardigan or kimono and closed-toe ballet flats would be perfect, since it’s a more casual environment and offices tend to get a little chilly, even in the summertime. On days when you’re at a concert venue in the hot summer sun, you can put on a sundress, a blazer and ballet flats! Make sure your feet are comfortable because you may be running around a bit!
