How to Survive the Binghamton Tundra

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

With the average temperature in Binghamton being in the low 20s on the daily and the sun rarely present; it can get pretty brutal, making students never wanting to leave his or her dorm room or apartment. However, there are plenty of ways to stay warm and survive the “Binghamton Tundra”.

Having and wearing the right clothing is essential for keeping warm.  This may mean wearing extra layers of sweaters, wearing a cozy scarf, having lots of pairs of wool/fuzzy socks, gloves, hats and even ear muffs.  It is also important to make sure you have a very comfortable pair of snow boots, because they will become a part of your daily outfit!

Second, there are lots of short cuts to avoid having to walk outside in order to get to classes.  For example, the Student Wing connects to the Lecture Hall and Academic A, B and Science 1 all connect.  I also always walk through the Marketplace to get to anywhere on the Spine.  You can also walk through the Fine Arts building to escape the cold.

Lastly, I always like to warm up by making pit stops at Einstein’s, Jazzman’s or Starbucks to get a nice hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
