Fun Things to Do in the Fall at Binghamton

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

Here at Binghamton, autumn is definitely the best time of year. The trees are changing, pumpkin spice is in the air… and there is a LOT to do! Take a look at this list for fun things to do on campus, downtown, and in the great Bing area!

On Campus:

  1. Hike in the Nature PreserveThis is self explanatory, but I do know people who are seniors, I repeat, SENIORS, who have never been in the Nature Preserve. This is the best time of year to go. There are trees, leaves, frogs, beavers, chipmunks, and all sorts of fun stuff in there. :) I dare you to find the playground!
  2. Mid-day ConcertsMid-day concerts are back! Every Thursday at 1:15 in Casadesus Concert Hall (First floor fine arts), students (and sometimes special guests!) showcase their talent in a short, mid-day concert. The musical genres range from classical to jazz and everything in between. I’ve seen saxophone quartets, dueling pianos, opera scenes, and even an excerpt from West Side Story. Support your fellow students and fill that awkward gap between thursday classes.http://www.bingspot.com/binghamton/event/mid-day-concert-7
  3. Parents WeekendParents weekend is right around the corner (next weekend!) and there is a ton of stuff to do even if your parents don’t come to visit! On Friday night, there will be a fun bonfire, various events hosted by Chabad and Hillel, a women’s volleyball game, and a Moonlight walk in the Nature Preserve. Saturday really packs it in with family portraits, coffee breaks, exercise services at campus rec, Running with the Goats 5k, Newing Autumn Bowl/Dickinson Days, musical concerts in Fine Arts by the music department and various a capella groups, and a closing performance by comedian Nick Offerman. It’s sure to be a blast!http://www.binghamton.edu/parents/events/family-weekend.html
  4. HomecomingHomecoming is great because a bunch of alumni come and hang out. Various panels are offered to speak to alumni in your field. There are also fun things like bonfires, sporting events, and more! Be sure to wear your Binghamton green!http://www.binghamton.edu/alumni/events-chapters/homecoming/

Downtown:

  1. First Friday/Zombie WalkSo First Friday happens every first friday of the month. October gets super creepy because this is also when DT Bing has its annual Zombie Walk. Don’t be too alarmed if you spot one walking off the bus! There are also really cool events that go on at places like Lost Dog Cafe and the Bundy Museum so check out the links below for some cool details!http://www.bingspot.com/binghamton/event/zombiewalk2014http://www.bingsp…
  2. Twilight Zone at the LibraryIf you check BingSpot, they have all the dates of the 55th anniversary of certain episodes of the Twilight Zone. They are showing them at the library. A definite must for any TZ fans!http://www.bingspot.com/binghamton/event/twilight-zone-library
  3. Binghamton Film Initiative Movie Premier at The Art MissionOn October 6th, the Art Mission in downtown (by the greyhound station) will be showing the movies created by Binghamton students last year. This is super cool and knowing a few of the creators, I know you will not be disappointed!http://www.bingspot.com/binghamton/event/binghamton-film-initiative-movi…
  4. 7th Annual Worldwide Photo WalkOn October 10th, there is a walk in downtown Binghamton where you go to impressive buildings and places and have the opportunity to take photos.
