Diary of a Downtown Girl: Giving Thanks
Warning: This blog post is not scandalous in any way, shape, or form.
Sorry to disappoint but Downtown Girl hasn’t been feeling like herself lately. This is resulting in what is going to be a very sappy, wholesome little convo. You really should’ve expected this. I told you I was taking a break from my wildness and things can’t get much crazier than “actually losing it.” Or maybe it can, just not yet.
First off, I hope your Thanksgiving was as delicious as mine. Seriously, who ever came up with this whole eat until you die holiday is a genius. I’m kind of sort of in love with you. Call me some time. Anywho.. Besides the food, Thanksgiving gave me a lot of perspective. I guess I’ve never really taken this holiday quite seriously. Going around the table and stating what you’re most thankful for was just something you did quickly and thoughtlessly so you could get to the turkey. But I really thought about it this time.
Senior year, though it has been quite the dramatic one, has (so far) been absolutely amazing. I truly wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I’ve made more friends these past few months than I’ve made in all three years of college and each one has been even more amazing. The girls I live with are sweethearts. I’ve never met a group of girls that have each other’s backs the way they’ve had mine. I wish I would’ve gotten to know them earlier in college but I’m glad they came into my life now.

I love waking up each weekend morning (and sometime weekday mornings) and having them run into my room so we can talk about the events that occurred the night before. No matter how good or how bad the night was, it doesn’t really matter because I spent it with them. I know, this is very Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but I adore them. They’re funny, beautiful, intelligent, honest, and dependable. So this year, I’m forever grateful for these girls that have quickly become my best friends. Something tells me they’ll be around for a while and I’m perfectly fine with that.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my old friends. How they’ve stuck around all these years is beyond me. Seriously, I’m insane. You know this. But really, if we ever get the chance to meet, you’ll see what I mean. I’m overly dramatic all the time. I like to think of it as more theatrical than dramatic but whichever way you slice it, I’m a lot to handle. Despite all that, these wonderful people have stayed with me knowing the real me. It’s amazing and I love them for it.
Being around my family this week was difficult at first. I kept thinking, “OMG they can totally tell I’m not a virgin anymore.” They obviously couldn’t but like I said, I’m insane. And paranoid. I tried to hide from them all week but seeing them was inevitable since I kind of live under the same roof as them. Hiding was silly. I have the best family in the world. We fight, we cry, we laugh, but it’s all out of love. Unconditional love. That’s always something worth being thankful for.
Lastly, I’m thankful for you. I’m thankful for this. I’d probably be certifiable if I didn’t have this outlet to express myself. I love writing for all of you and I hope you all enjoy reading what I have to say. I like to think that you all find some comfort in reading my stories because I know we’ve all gone through very similar situations at one point or another. So as long as you keep on reading, I’ll keep on writing. :)
