The Best Bags for Downtown

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Binghamton chapter.

It’s Friday night and you are going down to State Street for a fun night with your besties. Throughout the night you are constantly taking out your wallet to pay for cover charges as well as constantly reapplying your lip gloss. There’s no doubt about it; we are women, we have needs. Unlike guys who only needs a wallet and phone, girls have to have their wallet, phone, make-up, and some form of breath mint. Keeping those items in our pockets is not going to cut it when going out. Luckily, fashion designers are aware of this going out culture and have come up different solutions for us in order to keep all these items in one place without having to bring a giant purse. We want to use something that can hold all of our items, but not be a hassle to carry. Below are the most popular types of bags that Binghamton students bring when they go downtown.

Clutch: This type of bag is for the trendy sophisticated girl who wants to make a statement with their outfit. This is a good type of bag because its small enough to keep everything that you would possibly need when you’re out. Clutches have become very fashionable in the last couple of years because they come in many different styles and colors and can definitely add some bold factor to an ensemble. However, the drawback to this option is the fact that there is no strap. This can get very annoying while you are trying to have fun and dance with your friends! So if you do choose to use this bag, you must be aware that you will be carrying it the entire night.

Wristlet: While similar to the clutch, the wristlet is the clutches immature, less trendy younger sister. This option is a throwback to middle school when we all got Coach wristlets for our thirteenth birthday. Although many of us have ditched these premature bags, there are still those who choose to bring this out. Someone would use this when they don’t have enough items to put in a bag, but there is too many to keep in pockets. This is more convenient then the clutch option, but be cautious that your friends may mock you for the next week!

Cross body bag: This type of bag is perfect for literally anyone! The cross body bag is the most common and most practical option of the three. They are great because most styles are big enough to hold everything that you would possibly need for going out, as well, it can hang across your body without having to hold it. Talk about convenience! There are so many different styles that a girl can choose from and can honestly match with any outfit. This is definitely a worthwhile investment for every college female!
