Add Some Fun to Your Rainy Binghamton Wardrobe

Binghamton is known for its rainy, dreary weather. Because of this reputation (along with all the Hurricane Sandy talk on campus, in social media, and in the news), I was inspired to go on a hunt for stylish pieces to wear in the gloomy Binghamton weather. Rainy days don’t always have to mean walking around in a rainy daze. You can still feel good about yourself and keep your mood up with cute rainy day outfits.

Normally we think ponchos, chunky rain boots and frizzy hair when we look out the window and see gray skies and droplets splashing onto puddles. Instead, give these alternatives a try.

Trench coats are a great option on stormy days. They have the same function as rubbery-feeling rain coats but with a sophisticated feel. Choose one with a hood to protect your hair from the rain. Along with that, opt for a belted waist at a length a smidge above the knee.

As far as footwear goes, there are plenty of cute rain boots out there (like these adorable red hunter boots). But if you’re looking to switch it up, try a pair of combat boots made of a waterproof material. They’ll protect your feet, won’t get ruined and are a smart, edgy alternative to the standard rain boot. I own this pair, from Baker’s. The back zipper is functional and provides a pop of color. You can also fold down the top from a calf length boot to an ankle boot, adding variety and even more color with the patterned inside material. It’s almost as if you have two shoes in one! Not to mention, they’re great in the rain and mud.

You don’t have to put fashion on the back burner on rainy days; all you have to do is think outside of the box. Remember to think stylish AND functional. Find your own unique versions of these pieces and stay dry!
