Winter Fashion for Spring Weather

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Has this happened to you every day of this screwed up winter too? You wake up and pull yourself out of bed for your 9:55 class, get dressed in some jeans, uggs, a sweatshirt, and your big winter coat and head to class. By the time class is over at 11:10 and you bundle back up to make the walk back only to realize the cool 30 degree weather you dressed for is now at a balmy 55 degrees.

So what do you do? My first reaction is to always walk back, coat and sweatshirt over my shoulder ready to dig through for some spring clothes until I remember, oh yeah, its February. We’ve got a long way to go until we all start wearing spring clothes again, so in the meantime here are some tips on how to still dress for winter, when mother nature decides it’s gonna feel like May.

Patterned Tights
Patterned tights are a great way to go when you’re looking to dress nice, make a statement, and not totally bare those legs yet. Patterned tights go great with solid colored dresses and skirts, or you could layer them with an over-sized sweatshirt and scarf. They work well with almost every type of shoe and there are so many different styles to choose from. The holes will keep you cool enough on your walk up to class in lieu of plain tights, and it is hard to go wrong with what you wear them with, just try not to mix too many patterns!

Scarves With Tanks or Tees
This is great for when you have a cool morning class and want to be prepared as the day is predicted to grow much warmer. Start the morning with a tank top or t-shirt, some jeans or leggings, and a light jacket or warm cardigan. No matter how the day goes, you will still stay warm or cool if you need to lose the jacket, and look trendy while doing it!

Dresses With Boots
This is a great way to wear the spring dresses you’ve been dying to try out, while still looking like you know its February. Channel your inner Taylor Swift with a flowing sundress and cowboy boots, then top it off with a jean jacket or cardigan. For a more polished look you could select a sleeker, solid dress with riding boots, which would go great with a leather jacket! Mix and match all you want, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with this style.

Maxi Skirts
This used to be a trend most people would stay far away from (not exactly seen as the most flattering fashion), but maxi skirts have come back into style, and are the perfect winter staple to stay cool in. Most people shy away from this trend simply because they have no clue what they would ever pair with it, but there are so many ways to do it! A slouchy shirt or sweater would look cute, plus keep you cozy in the library, or just a simple tee and a scarf to style it up (also may or may not be the exact outfit I am currently wearing). For more great ideas Lauren Conrad explains plenty of ways to rock the Maxi skirt.
