This Is Why It Takes Us So Long To Get Ready

For some women getting ready to go out is, without a doubt, a process. Of course I’ve met some women who can throw on an outfit, grab their bag and be ready to go – and to those, I envy you. The way I see it is, when you choose to go out you’re hoping to let loose and have a great night and you want to feel, smell, and look your best. When you go to class on the other hand… sweats are just fine. For some, it may take a few minutes, and for others, a few hours. This article features products we got from Her Campus Nationals in our Back to School Survival Kit.

Prep the Canvas

How strenuous was your day? Did you run around from lower to upper a lot? Did you spend the last hour in class gagging at your own B.O.? Were you wearing a high bun today to try and hide your greasy, unwashed hair? If so, it’s time to hop in the shower. Now if you need to shave your legs, that’s going to tack onto your prep time. I would recommend showing as soon as possible, several hours before you plan to embark on your journey to the city/dorm room party/frat basement/bar.

Let It Dry

Letting you hair dry naturally is healthier than reaching for the blow dryer. Depending on your hair length and thickness, give your hair the appropriate time to dry on its own, before you choose to use any heat tools on it. This step alone may be why the going out process may become lengthy for some women. If you opt to blow it out, it still takes a long time.

Apply the First Layer of Paint

While you’re drying off, you can get started on the face. This week we chose to use Rimmel London’s 24HR Supercurler Mascara (it lifts our lashes ALL NIGHT, no matter what we find ourselves doing), the Colour Precise Eyeliner in Blue (it’s super bold, and something we’d probably only wear on a night out), and The Only 1 Lipstick in the color cheeky Coral (it’s super bright, so we just dabbed it on for subtle color).

Dress the Artwork

We have to think about an outfit that 1) fits with the environment of the location we’re going to (stilettos and a mini dress may not be the scene at a sports bar), 2) is appropriate for the weather (when winter comes its jeans season), 3) and finally we have to see what our friends are wearing – they’re who we get most of our outfit inspiration from. Once it gets colder out, you may not want to wear a dress or a skirt, but if the occasion arises, slip on a pair of L’eggs Sheer Energy Medium Support; you’ll get no lines with these, and it’ll suck in that chipotle you ate for lunch. And for some extra boobie action, try on the Maidenform’s Love the Lift® Push Up & In Satin Demi Bra. For someone who doesn’t usually go for push-up bras, this one gets an A+ for not digging into my stomach and feeling like I’m carrying around extra pillows on my chest.

Setting the Masterpiece

Finalize your outfit with I ♥ JUICY COUTURE, the new fragrance from Juicy Couture.

Photograph Your Final Piece

Relish in the masterpiece you created by snapping a few pics, perhaps in front of an artistic tapestry or American flag.

Maintain Your Artwork

You don’t want your artwork to get worn out, so use a facemask from Freeman Beauty. We like the Avocado/Oatmeal kind! It’s perfect for moisturizing your skin after a dehydrating night out.
