Melissa Reville, Deloitte Senior Audit Assistant

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Many of us know Melissa Reville, Class of 2012, from her many involvements on campus such as RHA and Undergraduate Admissions. What you may not know is that she’s now working at Deloitte in New York City. Check out my interview with her to see what else this awesome alumna is up to!

Name: Melissa Reville

Hometown: Skillman, NJ

Graduation Year: 2012

Major: Accountancy

Minor: Finance

Current Job Position: Senior Audit Assistant at Deloitte in NYC

Her Campus Bentley: What activities were you involved with at Bentley?

Melissa Reville: I was involved at Bentley as a First Year Seminar Peer Facilitator, a Bentley Ambassador, an executive board member of Residence Hall Association, a member of Beta Alpha Psi, and an intramural volleyball player.

HCB: What Bentley experience stands out as the most significant to you?

MR: Any time I was able to travel with other Bentley students stands out to me after four years. I went abroad during the winter session my junior year with Kristin Sorensen’s class to Chile, which was my first time traveling abroad. I also attended the Habitat for Humanity spring break trip my senior year in addition to the infamous Bahamas trip during graduation week. It was a chance to connect with peers I wouldn’t have otherwise met in new and exciting settings.

HCB: What’s life as young alumna like?

MR: Navigating the first post-grad year definitely had its growing pains. Transitioning to a new city, a new job and a whole other host of responsibilities took a lot of time to get used to. After settling into the new lifestyle, however, it has been really fulfilling and I feel myself building my career and my life in a positive direction. I actually had a lot of flexibility over the summer, so I took some time to travel and visit friends. I also try to explore the city as much as possible, and stay involved through the Bentley Alumni NYC network.

HCB: Describe the best part of your job, and the most challenging part.

MR: The best part about auditing is the learning curve. The first year when you arrive, you know absolutely nothing; a year later, I have such a better understanding and a more confident ownership of my work. The most challenging part is definitely the ubiquitous ‘busy season’ during the winter because it feels never-ending. It took about 5 months, but finally did end – not that I’m looking forward for January to roll around again!

HCB: What advice would you give to this year’s seniors?

MR: Take a chance to give back, even if it’s just a simple ‘thank you’, to younger students you had the chance to mentor, to staff you have worked with, or to faculty who have inspired you. The community at Bentley has shown me, while as a student and even more so as an alumna, immense support in my successes and during difficult challenges.

Also, as I’m sure most alumni would echo, enjoy this time! Senior year goes by so quickly, and everyone has worked so hard to get to this point.
