DIY Valentine’s Gifts for Your BFFs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Some of the most important people in your life are your friends. Show them your love with these do it yourself gifts.

Valentine’s Day Plants

Show someone you care by giving them a cute little plant that will brighten their day and will last for long time (much longer than candy)!

All you need:

  • Mini metal buckets in pink, red, or white (find them at Target in the dollar section or at your local craft store)
  • White fish tank gravel
  • Assortment of cacti and other small indoor plants
  • Succulent soil
  • Markers
  • Paper
  • Toothpicks or wooden kitchen skewers

The steps:

  1. Put a thin layer of soil at the bottom of your metal bucket.
  2. Place your succulent in the soil and pat some soil more around the top.
  3. Spread some white gravel around the edge of your bucket.
  4. Add some Valentine’s Day signs! Cut rectangular pieces of paper and tape each one on the front of either a toothpick or kitchen skewer. Add your own personalized message with the marker, and for an added personal touch, use the markers to draw hearts or designs on the buckets!

Hot Cocoa Mix

Winter’s not over yet! Show your friends you love them by making them Valentine’s Day hot chocolate mix.

All you need:

  • Hot chocolate mix (Preferably with mini marshmallows)
  • Small glass jars
  • Fabric
  • Ribbon
  • Hole punch
  • Paper
  • Markers

The steps:

  1. Scoop some hot chocolate mix into the glass jars.
  2. Cut a square of Valentine’s Day themed fabric so that it will fit over your jar opening.
  3. Screw the lid on top of the fabric, and then tie a ribbon around the lid.
  4. On a small rectangular piece of paper, write a Valentine’s Day-themed note to your friend and hole punch the corner so that you can loop it onto the ribbon.

Valentine’s Day Candy Jar

All you need:

  • Similar to the previous idea, you need all the same materials… except instead of hot chocolate, get your friend’s favorite candy!

The steps:

  1. Decorate the jar however you want with hearts and ribbon
  2. Add in some Valentine’s Day treats and write a note on the top of the jar!

DIY Sharpie Mugs

These mugs tell your friends how much they mean to you!

All you need:

  • A mug (pick a color that your friend would like, or one that is Valentine’s Day themed)
  • Sharpie paint markers

The steps:

  1. Wash your mug before writing on it.
  2. Pick a saying that is meaningful to you and your friend and write it on your mug.
  3. Add hearts and other decorations and patterns.
  4. Optional: fill the mug with some Valentine’s Day Candy!
