The Boston College Girl’s Guide to Stuffing Your Face

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

You’ve probably spent your week eating the same 5 go-to meals at the campus dining hall or cooking yourself some subpar dinners. So when Friday rolls around, you should indeed TREAT YO SELF. Whether it’s a quick dinner before some fun weekend plans, or simply wanting to park yourself at a bar/restaurant for a more casual night out, I’ve got you covered on all things delicious and diverse. Whatever mood you’re in, the Boston area definitely has a must-try restaurant to match it. Prepare for food-baby now.

Atwood’s Tavern – (Cambridge, MA)

A personal fav, Atwood’s has that old school pub feeling with delicious food and an awesome atmosphere. In the warmer months they have a cute beer garden out back that is the perfect casual setting to hang with friends. Prices are super reasonable, with one of the best meals being their $20 flat iron steak (college friendly, foodie worthy) as well as the oven-baked mac & cheese. If you’re #legal, you can’t beat the 25+ beers on tap, which always include awesome seasonal options. Perhaps the best part of the whole experience, though, is the live music. There are a diverse group of artists playing virtually every night, making it a really laid back and cool place!

The Gourmet Dumpling House – (Chinatown, Boston)

Hands down, this is where you will find the best dumplings you can get in Boston! Pork, chicken, beef, vegetarian, seafood… you name it, you can get it in a dumpling. Among some of the other must-orders are the scallion pancakes, Chinese broccoli, and house fried rice with pork and shrimp (order them, you’ll thank me). The menu is extensive, and you probably won’t truly know what half of the meals actually are. That being said, I’ve never seen a bad looking dish, so you can’t really go wrong. I recommend going with a group of friends, ordering a bunch of items, and sharing! The restaurant is a tiny hole in the wall and is ALWAYS packed, but so totally worth the chaos!

BRONWYN – (Union Square, Somerville)

This is one of my great new finds! The restaurant has a medieval décor and serves German and Central European foods and beverages. Basically, it’s Oktoberfest here all year round. The Bronwyn Bretzel is a must-get appetizer. For your main, you can’t go wrong with either the pierogi or schnitzel. And don’t forget to try one of their imported beers… if you are feeling ambitious, get the “Das Boot” (a literal boot-shaped glass of beer)! Prost!

Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar– (Newbury Street, Boston)

Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar is definitely the place to be for all you taco loving senoritas! Although this place is amazing any day of the week, Mexican Mondays are coveted, as $7 and a drink purchase get you all-you-can-eat tacos! Is there anything better in life than all-you-can-eat tacos? The answer is no, no there is not! The ambiance here is awesome and every table receives a grapefruit palate cleanser at the start of the meal and a giant cotton candy at the end. Weird, but oddly satisfying and fun! They book up quick, so be sure to call and make reservations, especially if you are trying to hit it up on a Monday!

Sweet Cheeks Q – (Fenway, Boston)

This is a must visit for all the BBQ babes out there. Comfort food is name of the game at Sweet Cheeks, as you get to pick from pork belly, pulled chicken, sausage, brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, and bbq chopped brisket… you really can’t go wrong with any of them! Then you get to add on the sides– mac & cheese and potato salad are GOLD. The final touches are the biscuits and honey butter. SO GOOD! You will probably leave feeling like you may explode, but personally I think it’s worth every bite!

LuLu’s – (Allston, MA)

One word people: TOTS. You love tater tots. I love tater tots. Napoleon Dynamite loves tots. So please do us all a favor and drag yourself out of bed on Saturday for brunch at Lulu’s. The White Trash Hash is life changing and fulfills all tater tot lovers’ dreams, as they are topped with short ribs, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. ‘Nuf said.

Za Restaurant – (Cambridge, MA)

It’s hard to really mess up pizza, but it’s hard to make it fabulous as well. Luckily for us, Za’s has gone above and beyond to bring us pizza that goes to the next level of greatness. Za offers a ton of thin crust pizza options, with the most exotic (and delicious) being the mac & cheese pizza and the Beef Bomb. Who doesn’t love pizza topped with all our other favorite meals?!

Pro-tip:  Wear loose clothing when testing out restaurants listed above. Enjoy!
