Often times when I tell people that I dance, there is a comment like “Oh for fun?”
Of course, for fun.
But there are other reasons: it fills me with joy, it distresses me, and, this one’s a shocker, it is what makes me “athletic.”
That last part is what usually gets people laughing.
So many people think dancing isn’t challenging. They think it doesn’t test your body’s physical and mental limits, or that anyone could get on stage and use their creative ability to illustrate a scene with movement.
That’s not true.
I’m not an all-star dancer; my technique lacks and my fuetes are terribly disappointing. However, my creative mind and willingness to try new things makes up for it.
Dancing is swaggy. If you know me, you know I love that word. Watch these videos and embrace all the swagginess (I’m making up words at this point) they have to offer.
Just don’t watch them in class… no one wants you dancing in class.
