Meet CC of Her Campus Vandy: Niina K

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Belmont chapter.

Name: Niina K Year: Senior (Class of 2017) Hometown: Helsinki, Finland Major/ Minor: Economics major, minors in Corporate Strategy and French

What are your interests and hobbies? I was a competitive swimmer for most of my childhood/adolescence, so even though I’ve quit a long time ago, being active is still really important to me. Now, I’m a member of Title Boxing on Church St, and I’m absolutely in love with it.

What are you involved in/off-campus? Other than Her Campus, I’m involved with Glamour Gals (a service organization that gives manicures to women living in retirement homes), VSG AcFee (tasked with providing allocating funding to student organizations) and my sorority.

Why did you choose Vanderbilt? I had actually never visited, but I fell in love with the picture that the admissions director painted when he presented the school in my high school. The idea of a campus school that was still in a major city was what I was looking for, and I’m so happy I chose Vanderbilt.

Any Role Models? Why? My goal in life is to be as successful and fabulous as Anna Wintour in whatever field I’m in

What is your favorite spot at Vanderbilt? In Nashville? Bamboo bistro is definitely my favorite ‘café’ at Vanderbilt – I eat there once a day! I’m absolutely obsessed with the bubble teas that you get there, so honestly I probably get a bowl of pho more often than I want to, just so I can get the bubble tea as a side. I have so many favorite spots in Nashville, and I feel like they’ve changed from year to year! I used to go to Atmalogy a lot to do work, but nowadays I’ve been going to JJ’s instead to do work. My favorite restaurant is definitely Moto in the gulch!

Fun fact about me: I was born in Helsinki and I’ve lived in Singapore and China during elementary/middle school as well.

What is your favorite thing about HC? I love reading and writing articles! It’s nice to have fun stuff written about your own campus, cause you’ll definitely understand them. However, my favorite is definitely the events that we’ve been able to have. Throughout my three years here, we’ve had numerous shopping events, as well as workout classes with Title (it’s how I first got introduced to it) and Barre3.

How did you get involved with Her Campus Vanderbilt? I went to the organization fair my sophomore year, met the CC at the time and just started writing!

Favorite Quote? Every pizza is a personal pizza if you try hard and believe in yourself

Favorite Food? It’s a toss-up between Italian and Japanese. I absolutely adore sushi, but I also love lasagna and pizza.

Favorite Movie? Titanic is an all-time favorite, but I also love all of the movies from the Marvel comics!

Favorite Song? Anything by Ed Sheeran! I wasn’t a huge fan of the newest singles, but Shape Of You is really growing on me, and I can’t get it out of my head now.

Born and raised in Louisville, KY, Sarah came to Belmont as a member of the class of 2019. Sarah joined the Her Campus Belmont team as a chapter contributor her sophomore year and took over as President just a few months later. While you'll find her studying corporate communications and theatre during school, in her free time she enjoys hot yoga, bingeing Game of Thrones, and working to make her chapter the absolute best it can be.
