Winter For The Dress Obsessed Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

“You are always so dressed up!” If you frequently hear this exclaimed as you walk into class, chances are that your wardrobe consist mainly of dresses, and for a good reason.

Dresses are so easy. You don’t have to worry about matching anything together. There’s no searching for that top that has to go with those bottoms; your outfit is already complete. Not to mention there are so many styles of dresses that there is bound to be one perfect for your body type.

Plus, let’s be honest, it doesn’t hurt that everyone wants to compliment you for always putting so much effort into your outfit (little do they know how easy it is).

Now enters the real problem – the winter. It’s too cold to bounce around in a summer dress and just throw a jacket on top of it. Maybe if you lived somewhere in the South, but that is just not possible in New England weather. I mean look at this girl, she just looks like she’s about to be frozen with the purpose of being defrosted a hundred years into the future.

Don’t fret though, because help has arrived. There are some pretty easy ways to carry dresses over into winter.

For one, invest in fleece-lined leggings. They are much warmer than tights and basically are the same thickness of pants. Don’t worry if they are athletic wear, they are the warmest and your boots will cover any logos. For extra cold days, wear tights underneath the fleece leggings. Tights are thin enough you won’t see them, but still add warmth.

Next, find cute long sleeved dresses (sweater dresses anyone?). These will be crucial for the subsequent step – learn to layer. Pile on sweaters and scarves on top of your dress ensemble for added warmth. The most important piece of advice is warm socks. Invest in some heavy-duty wool socks that you can wear along with your tights and leggings combo. Most of heat in our body escapes through our feet, hands, and head, so by keeping your feet warm you will raise your body temperature.

I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
