HGTV, aka the Home & Garden Television, is one of my absolute favorite channels on TV.  This may seem a little weird because I’m only 21 and I’m a long way away from owning my own house or garden, but… I don’t care.  I could sit and watch HGTV all day, no joke.  Except: we don’t get it here at BC!!!  This is something that still haunts me today.  When I go home, I always get some quality HGTV time in.

If you ask my friends, they’ll tell you that I’m big into planning and organizing just about everything.  While other women are busy fantasizing about their perfect wedding, I’m imagining my dream house: how many bedrooms, where I would want to live, the layout of my kitchen, you name it.  Instead of thinking about papers or school, I tend to go on Pinterest and plan out my master closet.

HGTV is the perfect channel to give anyone ideas about homes, interior design, etc.  There are a couple of shows that I call my favorite:

House Hunters/House Hunters International

This show follows an individual/couple/family as they try to find and purchase their new home.  Typically, the realtor takes them to three different houses that he/she thinks would fit their criteria. (Note: Sometimes the buyers are slightly quirky/crazy about what they do and don’t want in their new house, so it makes for entertaining TV. For example, one woman was bent on having a fireplace that lit up only by a switch. And this was non-negotiable.) At the end of the episode, the buyers decide which house they feel fits them the most.  And then we get a little glimpse into their new life in their purchased home!

House Hunters International is structured the same way, except it takes place internationally.  Some of the locations are very interesting, and give the viewers a quick look of what it would be like to live in Tanzania.

Property Brothers

Two brothers, Drew & Jonathan Scott, help couples find, purchase, and redo fixer-uppers with the ultimate result: their dream home!  Each couple has their own criteria for a dream home. Drew, the real estate agent, gives the couple two options of fixer-uppers that they can choose from.  Jonathan proposes plans for each home, modeled with the criteria that the couple requested.  But it’s always tough to balance the budget for the purchasing of the house and the subsequent redo, so sometimes couples get a little crazy (again: entertaining).  Finally, after the house is purchased, Jonathan and his workers fix the house for the couple, who are usually head-over-heels in love with it.

So if you’re a crazy planner/love interior decorating/like not-so-normal reality TV, then turn on HGTV!  Again, not here at BC : (
