While You Were Out: This Week’s Top News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

In case you were too busy enjoying home, family, friends, and turkey this weekend (I hope you were!), here are a few things you may have missed.

Andre44Heisman

On Tuesday, Sports Illustrated posted an article about our very own Andre Williams as “The Renaissance Heisman Candidate” and the hashtag #Andre44Heisman has been trending on Twitter ever since. We’ve always loved and been proud of Williams and this week his recognition skyrocketed!

Best in Show

If you happened to miss the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving, the winner this year is Jewel, a beautiful American Fox Hound!

Black Friday Fight

Once again, shoppers lived up to our expectations of a frightening Black Friday full of sleep-deprived shoppers scrounging for the best deals at 5 am. Across the country people were injured at fights that broke out at stores. At a mall in Philadelphia, a Taser gun was potentially part of a violent fight between women.  In Virginia a man was stabbed over a parking spot at Walmart, and in Chicago a police officer shot an alleged shoplifter who was trying to flee in a car that was dragging another officer.

Sing-a-long at Kensington Palace

On Wednesday, Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi sang “Livin’ on a Prayer” with The Duke of Cambridge, aka Prince William, at a charity even. Needless to say, it was the cutest thing ever and Tay high-fived him after the song. In addition to being an awesome combination of great people, Bon Jovi said that William has a great singing voice! Mark down another win for the royal family.

“Fast & Furious” Actor Paul Walker Dies

On Saturday, actor Paul Walker, age 40, died in a car accident. Walker was in the passenger seat of a friend’s car when the accident happened during the afternoon in Valencia, CA. Walker was in the area after attending a charity event for his nonprofit Reach Out Worldwide to benefit the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, a statement on his Facebook page said. The actor is most known for his role in the Fast & Furious movies, but also starred in The Skulls, Takers and Running Scared. Walker stars in the upcoming film Hours, a drama about Hurricane Katrina, which is set to release on December 13. He was working on Fast & Furious 7 at the time of his death. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Paul’s close family and friends and we will forever remember his work as a talented and caring actor.
