What It’s Like To Wear a Fitbit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Fitness trackers have intrigued me for a while now. I have always been fairly active, but it would be great to actually see my workouts quantified. So when I got a Fitbit Charge HR for my birthday, I was super excited! Surprisingly for me, I’ve been really good about wearing it every day. Overall, it’s been a positive experience and I will definitely continue wearing it everyday.

Having something monitor every move you make serves as a great reminder to work on your goals. Also, I have an odd obsession with monitoring my heart rate, so being able to check that at any second has been fantastic. I think my favorite feature is the sleep monitor. It tracks your movements throughout the night and charts them for you to view when you wake up in the morning. After a few nights, I learned that I very rarely fall into a deep sleep, which I guess explains why I’m always so sleepy in my 9ams. It also has a vibrating alarm so I don’t wake my roommate up. I can also use it if I need to remember something later in the day and don’t want my phone accidentally going off in Bapst.

You wear it on your wrist so it is an accurate measure of how much you are exercising, as opposed to relying on your phone for counting steps. This is great for people like me who forget to bring their phones with them all of the time.

Additionally, your Fitbit syncs to your phone and computer allowing you to track your progress in comparison with your friends that also have Fitbits. Remember, fitness trackers were created to help individuals reach their goals, and they should not be something that anyone stresses out over. If you start noticing that you are checking your stats obsessively, maybe stop wearing it for a while and focus on doing something you love doing without worrying about your step count. Overall though, I love and highly suggest wearing a Fitbit!
