Wearing White After Labor Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

In the world of fashion, it is all about risks, and as stylist to the stars, Rachel Zoe said “fashion rules are meant to be broken”. In recent seasons, it has become trendy and trendier to break one of the most commonly known fashion taboos: no white after Labor Day. Fashion and style are a means of self-expression and individuality; how is one supposed to express him or herself if an entire color is permitted for more than half the year?

Bringing white into one’s wardrobe year around is a fun, chic way to make an average cold weather outfit stand out from the crowd.  Handfuls of designers, celebrities, and fashionistas have long bid farewell to this antiquated rule of no white. By choosing the right material—steer away from summer fabrics such as seersucker and linen—you add a fresh, crisp feel to any look whether it be a pair of paints, an oversized sweater, or an accessory.

If there is one rule of fashion, it is that there rules are no rules (within reason). If you miss your favorite pair of white skinny jeans in the middle of November, wear them! By pairing such an item other pieces like a flannel button down or killer jacket, you can easily transition your white clothing to become a staple in your wardrobe no matter the month! Stick to your style, and either way you are sure to make a statement.

I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
