Valentine’s Day DIY Gifts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s a Saturday morning.  You wake up, eager and excited to trek into Boston for the day until you leisurely stroll over to the window and notice that the ground is white, the trees are white, the sky is white, and well, it looks like a snow storm has stranded you at BC.  While you could just go back to bed or watch another episode of Friends, why not spend your time more effectively and make some Valentine’s Day gifts?  Here are just some ideas for DIY gifts that anyone (and believe me when I say anyone!) would love to get this February 14th!

For the Bookworm – Heart Bookmark: Everybody loves to read, right?  Okay, so maybe I love books a little more than the average person, but all college students could use a bookmark for their endless reading assignments.  Not only are these heart bookmarks practical, but they are adorable too!  They are sure to make even the most boring, dry textbook a little more fun read.

For the Chocaholic – Chocolate Covered Strawberries:  Chocolate covered strawberries are a Valentine’s Day essential.  While they may be cliché, they’re definitely delicious and that’s all that matters.  Don’t have a fully equipped kitchen?  No problem!  As long as you have a microwave and a fridge you are good to go!  And just think of the endless decorating possibilities you have. Tuxedo strawberries anyone?

For that Extra Special Someone – Photo Montage:  If you’re struggling to find a gift for that special someone, look no further.  Sneak into your special someone’s dorm room on February 14and transform their white, concrete wall with sentimental pictures in the shape of a heart.  Not feeling stealth?  Assemble a photo montage on a piece of foam core and wrap it up as a present.

For Fido – Dog Treats:  We all love our pets, and what better way to show our affection than through an edible Valentine’s Day gift?  Homemade dog treats are easy to make and transport.  Whether you live close and can hand-deliver them to your pooch or feel like sending a package home, these dog treats are sure to make your pup’s tail wag.

For All Your Loved Ones – Valentine’s Day Cards:  It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without some homemade cards made from the heart.  These accordion cards look fancy, but they are really easy to make.  Give them to your roommates, family, friends, and professors.  They are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face!
