Transitional Accessories

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Everyone knows that the last thing you can rely on in Boston is the weather, especially as it enters the transitional state between fall and frigid winter.  One day will be 65 degrees and sunny, and the next will be a snowstorm with wind blowing so hard your eyes cry for you.  The best way to prepare is sifting through your wardrobe to find what things you already have or what you might still need to battle through these highly traumatic times.

Vests

Vests serve as a no-fail option to dressing up any outfit while still adding a practical layer of warmth.  Zip them over a sweater and pair with a scarf for a cute fall outfit for class or wear them underneath a heavier winter coat for those especially cold Boston moments.  Vests are the perfect apparel as hockey season approaches where you still want to show off your favorite BC gear but cannot stand to sit inside a rink in just a t-shirt.  Check out J.Crew for a variety of different colors (the J.Crew Factory site even has some at a great discount!)

Wool Socks

Your feet will thank you when you finally put to use those wool socks Grandma knit you.  Cold weather seems to hit hands and feet first, so hide your ugliest pair under your Bean Boots and Hunters or wear them with pride around the drafty dorm rooms.  SmartWool offers more toasty toe options than there are flavors of Rubinoff, so start stocking up for the winter.  Before you know it, you’ll fall so in love that you start rocking your socks with heels on the weekends.

Warm Headbands

There’s nothing worse than the great battle between cold ears and hat hair, but at last, your struggle can end with the simple purchase of a stylish and warm headband.  Urban Outfitters carries a variety of options with different styles and colors to match any outfit.  They are warm enough to survive Boston winter with but subtle enough that you won’t be getting awkward stares if you can’t help but to continue to wear it throughout class.

The brutal shift from a crisp fall to a freezing winter will be undoubtedly more bearable if you can brave the cold while still keeping your BC girl style.

I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
