That Single Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We always hear girls on campus say, “I wish I had a boyfriend” or “I’m so single. I’m never going to find someone.” However, I’ve recently come to realize just how awesome my single-ness is, and I’m learning to live it up. Here are the top seven reasons to love being single.

You don’t have to panic over what to get him for his birthday.

Shopping for presents for a significant other is exhausting. Is he getting you something, what does he want, how much should you spend? Being single, you only have to worry about your family and closest friends. It also saves you money!

You can spend the night-in wearing sweats and stuffing your face without judgment.

One of the best parts about being single is that there is never pressure to go out or go on a date. If you want to spend a night in watching Netflix, there’s no problem! If you want to stuff your face with Ben & Jerry’s for dinner, no one is stopping you.

Independence and time to focus on things you love!

Maybe you have a hobby or passion that you wouldn’t get to spend as much time on with a boyfriend. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try salsa dancing but your boyfriend wasn’t up for it. Maybe you really love to read romance novels. Being single means you have time to do whatever moves you!

Flirting!

That cute guy in your psych class? You can flirt with him now! No one is holding you back! And, there is no pressure with the flirting since you aren’t looking to rush into a relationship (because you realize being single rocks), so just have fun!

Noticing more stuff in the world!

Without anyone you are obligated to text a lot, it’s much easier to disconnect from your phone and notice the world around you. You’d be amazed at the things you will notice when you aren’t glued to your phone.

More time to hang out with friends!

Even though you may still spend time with your close friends when you are in a relationship, being single gives you even more quality time with them—and with friends you maybe wouldn’t get to see that often otherwise! How about that girl who you were good friends with last year since she lived on your floor, but now you never get to see? Single-dom means you can make time to see her!

Shaving your legs.

Without a doubt, the biggest upside to being single. You only have to shave your legs when you’re wearing a dress, and even then you can take the lazy way out.

So, girls and guys, be happy that you’re single and recognize that it’s a great time to enjoy yourself! Don’t rush into a relationship just because being single is “bad”—take your time and learn to put yourself first!
