Living in Boston (okay, Chestnut Hill), there is no way around it: St. Patrick’s Day is a gift. Besides Marathon Monday, it is arguably one of the best events of the year over here! With a long tradition of Irish Catholic immigrants, and so many cool pubs around the city, the feast of St. Patrick is definitely a day of celebration!
Besides Irish car bombs and “Kiss Me I’m Irish” hats, there’s the annual South Boston Parade to help celebrate the day! The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on March 18 in South Boston, commonly referred to as the Southie Parade.
The day is too much fun. I had heard a lot about the parade my freshman year so I dragged my friend with me sophomore year to finally see what the big deal was. We had such a good time seeing everyone dressed up in green, watching the floats go by, and yes, scrambling to get the candy they toss to the crowd. You get to escape from campus for a couple hours and meet tons of good-spirited people. I’d highly recommend celebrating this year by visiting the parade!
