Questions No One Answers Truthfully

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We were always taught not to lie, but sometimes a collegiette has to make an exception!  Whether it’s to save some social standing or cover up for a lazy morning, there are definitely some fibs we all might be tempted to tell once in a while.  Don’t be ashamed, ladies, we’re all guilty of it sometimes!

Question:  “How are you?”
Context:  Walking around campus
Answer:  “Great! You?”
Why the lie?  Because, stopping someone on the Million Dollar Stairs to complain about your schoolwork, boy problems, or the gross yogurt in Lower is weird.

Question:  “Have you done any of the reading for this class?”
Context:  Two days before the midterm
Answer:  “Not at all, haven’t even bought the books.”
Why the lie?  There’s an array of reasons why someone would lie here, ranging from being overly competitive, to refusing to admit that the hours of studying you put in haven’t paid off yet.

Question:  “Love your yoga pants, did you go to the Plex this morning?”
Context:  Your 9AM class on Monday morning
Answer:  “Definitely, I love my morning workouts!”
Why the lie?  It’s simple.  Gym clothes in the morning are good.  Gym in the morning is bad.  Admitting this to others is not a thing we do.

Question:  “Are you Irish?”
Context:  Weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day
Answer:  “Yeah, like, practically 100%!”
Why the lie?  Not being Irish during this beautiful holiday season is basically a crime.  Not to mention, not being Irish might just be the biggest party foul yet.

On campus, she is the Campus Correspondent for the Boston College branch of Her Campus. She also teaches group fitness classes at the campus gym (both Spinning and Pump It Up!) and is an avid runner. She has run five half-marathons as well as the Boston Marathon. In her free time, Kelsey loves to bake (cupcakes anyone?), watch Disney movies, exercise, read any kind of novel with a Starbucks latte in hand, and watch endless episodes of "Friends" or "30 Rock."
