Pinterest Fails

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

I think it’s safe to say that most of the people reading this article spend far too much time on Pinterest. Just take a minute and look around in a big lecture hall class and I would venture to say that half of the girls in class are pinning.  So let’s just openly admit it:  we all spend hours perusing Pinterest for crafts we’ll never make, recipes that we don’t have time to cook or bake, and inspirational quotes that we will never look at again.  I personally am a little ashamed to admit that I have 3,347 pins at this moment.  Out of those pins, I probably have used about 50 for recipes, crafts, or outfit ideas. However, of the recipes that I have made, they have all mostly turned out well. I have found over time that the key to Pinterest is reading the directions intently, and almost always doubling the cooking time (Edmond’s ovens for the win).  I learned this second one over Super Bowl weekend when my Pinterest Peanut Butter bars that were supposed to take 20-25 minutes took TWO HOURS to bake fully.

In doing research for this article, I searched “Pinterest fails” on Pinterest and was dying of laughter.  Seriously, if you want to be entertained check it out.  I picked out a few of the best Pinterest fails to make all of you feel just a little bit better about anything that you may have tried.  I’m pretty sure that nothing could beat these!

1)      Cheese stick mozzarella bites- Clearly this did not turn out as planned. If it were me, why fix something that isn’t broken: late night anyone?

2)      Cookie monster cupcakes- We have all seen these cupcakes in our favorite diners and they don’t look too hard to recreate, right? Wrong.

3)      Crayon art- This was all the rage over the summer and looked like a really cute addition to any dorm. Apparently not as user friendly as Pinterest would lead us to believe.

4)      Marble nail art- I for one am always looking for new ways to do my nails because as you all know the same old colors do get boring after a while. However, now I’m glad that I didn’t try this one out.

5)      Waffle iron cookies- This looked like a fun new way to make cookies for those times that you just want something a little different. Maybe not so much after seeing this picture.

Don’t let any of these pictures deter you from trying out any of the more basic Pinterest recipes.  I have had tons of success on Pinterest and would be a lot hungrier without some of its lifesaving and super easy weeknight recipes.  My advice: when you see anything that has multiple steps or says anything above beginner, I would recommend skipping it over.  Good luck and happy pinning!
