Perks of Going Home for a Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Going to school a few hours away from home makes it possible for me to go home for a weekend if I want to get away for a few days. Although I don’t go home too frequently, when I am able to go home, I enjoy and cherish every minute of it. Here are some perks of going home for a weekend:

1. The Food

What’s better than homemade food? Whenever I go home, I always look forward to my mom and dad’s cooking. There is nothing better than a meal made by your family. Also, it’s so nice to hit up favorite restaurants or sandwich shops when returning home for a few days (shout out to Bradley and Wall Gourmet Foods in Connecticut).

2. The Family

If you’re like me, you’re very close with your family. Going home for a few days is one of my favorite things because I love spending time with the members of my family. Joking around, laughing, and just talking with my family makes me so incredibly happy and it is one of the best parts of being home.

3. The Chance to Escape from Dorm Life

Going home to my queen sized bed is always a much-needed change of pace from my small twin xl bed in my tiny room without air conditioning. Going home to my own room with my own bed and my own space is never underappreciated.

4. The Little Things

Whenever I go home, I’m always reminded of the little things I love and miss about my hometown. For example, I love going on beach walks along the water and hiking on the trails in surrounding towns. It’s so nice to be reminded of the things you love and miss about where you grew up. Going home provides me with the perfect opportunity to appreciate the place I live.

5. The Pets

Whenever I go home for a weekend, I can always rely on a grand welcome from my loving dog. Being home allows for a much-needed reunion with my best canine friend. Spending time on the couch with my dog next to me fills my heart with such warmth. My dog is definitely a top perk of being home.

6. The Chance to Unwind and Relax

Sometimes the best part of going home is having the chance to get away from school for a few days. I love my school and my friends, but sometimes I definitely need a break. Going home is the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and take a break from everyday stress at school. Plus, I’m doing the relaxing in my favorite place with the people I love.

With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday approaching, keep these perks of being home in mind! While the holidays can be stressful, there certainly is no place like home!
