The Perfect Hour Long Study Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Alright, so it’s the week of finals. You woke up at 8 a.m., showered and have been studying since 9 a.m. “Just one more hour,” you keep telling yourself. It’s 2 p.m. and if you don’t get away from your desk, you might start throwing books. Here’s my ideal study break, and I hope it provides some inspiration for your own study breaks.

2:00 p.m: Blast your favorite song. It is 24 hour quiet hours, so put in some headphones, stand up, and dance. It’s nice to get some blood flowing and your heart rate up. Plus, it gives you the opportunity to goof off after being super serious about your upcoming stats exam. You can even recruit your roommate!

2:04 p.m: Keep that music going, but try something a little more relaxed. Do some yoga poses or a handstand or whatever; something that requires attention and is a little slower than a wild dance party.

2:10 p.m: Food! Walk to Lower/Mac/Stuart (more exercise YAY!) and get some food. Plan a break with your friends so you have someone to talk to after your four hour date with Calculus. You can bond with your friends about the struggles of Aristotle or how much you love the teacher with a take home final. Note: Try to stay away from greasy food, it’ll make you feel sluggish, and grab some fruit for an afternoon study snack.

“Remember when we still had time for each other?”

2:40 p.m: Back in your room. T-25 minutes until studying. What to do? Everything you wanted to do while studying. Look up a cat video on YouTube! Stalk everyone you ever met on Instagram! Tweet about the harsh realities of learning Italian. Beat the “impossible level” on Cut the Rope or Clumsy Ninja.

2:52 p.m: Wasted enough time? Awesome. To be honest, I’d probably be dancing at this point so dance-yoga round 2!

2:56 p.m: Text your parents/boyfriend/etc. to let them know you’re still alive. Then make some hot chocolate, refill your water bottle, grab some snacks, and repeat after me, “I’m gonna kick some major exam butt!”

3:00 p.m: Time to take on Calculus. Or French. Or Theology. Or Biology. Or all five. Oh geez, time to start stressing.
