During Finals Season, it is often easy to get stuck into a monotonous routine of waking up and walking to your favorite on-campus library. Even though you may love Bapst or O’Neill with all your heart, and would pledge allegiance to one library over the other until the day of graduation, sometimes you need a break. A great way to get that break and still be productive is to find an off-campus study spot. Here are my top five recommendations for an off-campus study spot.

1. Boston Public Library

Located in Downtown Boston, this library is a great way to get into Boston while still getting work done. The library has both a historic looking side as well as a modern side, which appeals to both Bapst and O’Neill people. One tidbit of advice for the BPL during finals season is to get there early. Because finals season tends to fall around the same time for all the schools in Boston, it can get quite crowded during that time of the year. Even if you don’t get there during finals, this library is a great historical building in Boston that I would definitely recommend checking out.

2. Panera in Newton Center

Who doesn’t want great, fresh, home-y feeling food while studying for finals? That’s what makes Panera a great spot for studying. Also, the Panera in Newton Centre has a back room with only a few tables in it so for the most part, this area stays pretty quiet. Additionally, the close proximity to campus makes it an easy walk.

3.Caffé Nero

Caffé Nero is located on Beacon Street, just a short distance from campus, and is a great study location. It is always bustling with people so be prepared for background noise and having to work to get a table. But once you do, it is worth it. It has great coffee, outdoor seating, and free Wi-Fi, which makes this a wonderful place to set up to study for the day.

4. McMullen Museum

While this isn’t technically off-campus, going to the Brighton campus still provides a nice change of scenery. Surrounded by art and typically quiet, the museum provides a great study environment. The Museum is opening its doors to students as a place to study on May 7  and 8 from 5 pm – 12 pm. They are planning to provide coffee as well. This will definitely be a great event!

5. Starbucks in Harvard Square

This two-story Starbucks is located right across from the Harvard Campus which give it its great study environment. It provides all the typical luxuries that come along with working at Starbucks, such as coffee always at your disposal and free Wi-Fi while allowing you to work in a different part of Boston. This is a great place to check out both during finals season and any other time of the year!
