Meet Missa Sangimino, A&S ‘15!

Posted May 2 2012 - 12:00am

Meet freshman Missa Sangimino, the witty, working-girl from Pittsburgh, aspiring towards a career in writing.  She’s a self-proclaimed “music nerd,” who’s perfect date involves action sports.  But you’ll never guess who’s in her phonebook…

The Basics
Name:  Missa Sangimino
Hometown: Steel City, the greatest place you may ever be lucky enough to visit… also known as Pittsburgh
School/Year:  A&S, 2015
Major: English, Economics
Career: I haven’t quite fine-tuned my clairvoyant abilities yet. I am technically in the Pre-Law Progam, but I’m not sure about it yet. I really just want to do something that involves writing.

BC Life
Activities/Clubs: Cycling team, Peer Health Exchange, FLP, La Casa Hispánica (a veces), interning for College Magazine, and I work.
Best Class:  Literature & Society. It forces me to get up early, to read interesting things, be more productive with my life… Plus my professor is super knowledgeable.
Worst Class:  Macroeconomics. A class of 300 people, a professor who speaks at the volume of a gerbil, and a book that weighs more than my TV… these are not things that put me in excited-take-some-notes mode. Still, I guess it’s part of college and I suppose it’s been helpful in some strange, therapeutic sort of way.
Bapst or O’Neill:  Probably O’Neill, but only if I had to pick. I need noise when I’m studying (something about growing up with a bagillion siblings probably) so usually I head to the Chocolate Bar or I turn the TV on and do work in my room.
Favorite Place to Eat: The Rat. My coffee intake has been fairly significant since circa eighth grade, so the Rat is like ecstasy to me.
Favorite spot on campus: The stands during a football game, preferably with a hot dog in my hand

Everything Else:
Biggest Pet Peeve: Bad tippers. I’ve worked as a waitress back at home and $2.39/hr is no joke. Tip your servers, folks.
Favorite food: Anything cooked by my lovely Italian mother.
Favorite book: Probably Woman at Point Zero by Nawal el Saadawi. Or anything that Neil Strauss writes, he is the man.
Favorite movie: I would tell you, but the first rule of Fight Club is that we do not talk about Fight Club…
Ideal date: I like doing exciting things so if we’re talking the ideal date here, then definitely skiing, wakeboarding, rock climbing, something like that. I’m also a music nerd, so any kind of concert or music scene is winning date material.
Deal Breakers: If he’s a complainer, it’s a no-go. Or if he is shorter than me… Which I realize is a bit of a prejudice, but c’mon I’m only 5’5".
Fun Fact: Lately for my internship, I’ve gotten to interview some cool people. The Fray, Ingrid Michaelson, Steve Moakler, Ben Howard… they all have my cell phone number and everything. It’s pretty exciting, makes me feel pretty important either way.
Summer plans? Working and interning
Celeb Crush: Cristiano Ronaldo, not even a question. Ian Harding is pretty close though…
Most listened-to song on your iTunes: "Lego House" by Ed Sheeran
Dogs or Cats? Dogs! I’m actually a tad terrified of cats…
One thing you want to do before the year ends: I would love to get off the waiting list for me and my friends to move to Lower for next year. As of now, we’ll be on CoRo. It’d definitely be awesomer to be down there, but otherwise we’ll just have to spice up the Upper campus.
