The Masterminded Freshmen Behind the "Hitler Housing Video"

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

The stress of housing at BC is something every undergrad can relate to.  Between choosing your group, adjusting it depending on your pick, and crossing your fingers for the best locations, it's definitely most students’ least favorite time on campus.  Now that the housing period is behind us (at least for now), hopefully we can all laugh about the chaos and cattiness of the selection process - with the help of the "Hitler Housing Video."

If you haven't seen the Hitler Housing Video yet, you are completely missing out.  It's hilarious, witty and extremely accurate in its portrayal of the stress that is felt during housing week.  The video was featured on BrostonCollege and had an incredible amount of views on YouTube before it was taken down.  Whether a current student or an alumni, the video hit home for anyone who had ever experienced the BC housing process.

The masterminds behind this video are freshmen Matt Carroll, Ayman Bodair, Christian Galdamez, and Ethan Wajswol.  Matt, Christian, and Ethan are roommates and Ayman is their good friend and neighbor.  The four of them got together one night after they had all received their respective housing assignments and created the video.

Ethan originally came up with the idea for the video because he wanted to make a spin-off of the popular Hitler video.  "BC housing just came up as a funny idea,” says Ayman.

“It was hilarious making it, we couldn’t stop laughing,” Matt added.

As far as creating the actual video, the boys just sat down late at night and started throwing out funny lines that popped into their minds.  “Our caffeinated brains at 3am can pretty much do anything.  We just all collaborated on each section, found what was funny and fit best, and just went with it.  It turned out pretty well to say the least,” says Ayman.

To say the video was a hit would be an understatement.  The video quickly became one of the most talked about videos around campus and the boys reveled in the success.  According to Ayman, “It was awesome having everyone talk about the video.  In my head I was like yea, I helped make that.  Also, what was really cool was that professors were showing it in class.”

However, despite their quick rise to fame, the Office of Residential Life did not find the video to be quite as humorous as the rest of campus.  The boys were all required to meet with their RD to talk about why the video was inappropriate.  Luckily, they were only given a warning.

Though the process was stressful, all four boys are living in Walsh next year.  Despite the fact that Ayman, Ethan, and Christian were all lucky enough to get an eight-man in Walsh, Matt had some housing issues that definitely caused a lot of stress.  “I didn’t get an eight-man like I wanted, but my friends and I got 2 four-mans, so the experience wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been.  I was really dreading CoRo,” says Matt.

Between their rise to fame and having the housing gods smile upon them, everything is looking great for this group of young men.  As far as future plans for other videos go, they all agree that there will more than likely be other videos and that they can only hope that they're as popular as the Hitler Video.
