It’s Christmastime in the City: Romantic Dates in Boston

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

As the Christmas carol goes, “It’s Christmastime in the city.”  Do you know what that means?  Boston is filled with pretty lights and Christmas decorations.  It’s easy to get caught up with school work and feel obligated to stay trapped in your room until finals are over, but the city is calling you.  It doesn’t want you to miss out on the Christmas cheer and I think you deserve a break after working so hard this semester.  So take a break and try out the best Christmastime romantic dates in Boston (ater all, you won’t see your cutie for a whole month over break)!

1.  The Faneuil Hall Marketplace
Faneuil Hall has been one of America’s most famous shopping and dining experiences for over 250 years.  They have delicious clam chowder served in a bread bowl, which is perfect as the winter weather begins, and the area is beautiful to walk around for some Christmas shopping and dinner.  Let’s not forget the beautiful lights and Christmas tree that decorate the plaza!   It’s easy to get to– just hop on the green line and take it all the way to the end (Government Center).

2.  The North End
The North End is the perfect date spot.  It’s Boston’s oldest residential community with approximately 100 places to eat.  This area is known as Boston’s Little Italy and contains quaint Italian restaurants.  So take your pick!  This area gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights, so most restaurants do not take reservations on these nights.  Make sure to get there early and you’ll have plenty of time to walk around and see the beautiful scenery after a delicious Italian meal.  The beginning of the North End is a great spot to marvel at Boston’s beautiful skyline, too.

3.  The 41st annual Boston North End Christmas Parade
The Parade will be held on December 11 at 1 pm with Santa arriving on a helicopter.  The parade will have marching bands, candy, hayrides, and much more!  Make sure to check it out to get in the holiday spirit!

4.  Downtown Crossing
If you are looking to spend an evening shopping and eating with everything Christmas, then Downtown Crossing is the place to be.  This is a great area to walk around because it’s filled with street vendors and department stores all along the streets.  There are usually street performers in the area, especially around Christmastime.  Macy’s has already hoisted up its towering Christmas tree into place on the store’s marquee ledge.

5.  Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill is arguably Boston’s most desirable neighborhood, with its beautiful brick-row houses, brick-laden sidewalks, and narrow streets that make it so cozy.  The narrow streets light up at night and illuminate the historic architecture of Beacon Hill.  The neighborhood is filled with antique shops and boutiques, which adds to the beautiful scenery and architecture of the neighborhood.  The Boston Common is also by Beacon Hill, which is the oldest public park in America.  Each year, thousands of Bostonians skate away their winter on its Frog Pond.

6.  The Charles
The Charles River flows all throughout Boston and is one of the top romantic spots.  You can take a ride on a gondola or a sailboat, or simply grab a bench with your date and watch the joggers, bikers, and waterway activity go by.  There’s a skating rink called Daly Memorial Rink along the Charles, which is open from mid-November to mid-March.  So no matter which side you face, the Boston or the Cambridge side, it’s the perfect place to bring your date to see Boston’s beautiful skyline.  Plus, it’s the site of many proposals (not to give you any ideas…).

Finals can sometimes ruin the Christmas spirit, but don’t let it!  Take a break one night for a romantic date in Boston.  You won’t regret the time spent relaxing, the company you’ll keep, the sights you’ll see, and the fun you’ll have.
