How to Make it Look Like You Showered When You Didn’t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

We’ve all had those mornings where we wake up and say, “I refuse to get in the shower. ” Whether the result of having to wake up early, or realizing you’re late for class, everyone can admit that they’ve had to pick caffeine over hygiene at least once.  However, making it look like you showered when you didn’t is an art that can be mastered quite easily once you have the right technique.  Here are the simple, yet effective, steps to make it through your day without anyone thinking you’re a slob:

1.Baby Powder

The best kept secret I’ve ever heard is that putting baby powder in your hair can remove grease and actually make your hair look nice and clean.  Sprinkling a little on your brush or your hands and running it through your hair is a very easy and quick solution to bed head or greasy hair

2. Face Maintenance

A full shower can be skipped, but a good face wash probably can’t.  Washing your face and putting on some makeup will not only make you look like you are more put together than maybe you actually are, but will also make you feel more clean and fresh.  And if you’re running late, cleansing wipes are always a great alternative.

3. Hats

If baby powder fails you (and I promise it won’t), throwing a hat on is another great way to hide your hair from the world and still look cute.  Baseball hats work great, but a nice knit hat can also help keep you warm while it’s still cold and still mask unkempt hair.

4. The “I’m going to the Plex after class” look

Every BC girl knows how to dress for the Plex.  Yoga pants and sneakers are a staple in all of our wardrobes, and a day you decide to skip a shower is a great time to whip them out for class.  Workout clothes give you the “I want to go back to bed” feel without making you look like you couldn’t get out of bed this morning.  And the added plus? You could even actually go to the Plex after class.

5. Drink Water

It seems pretty simple, but downing a glass of water before you head to class will really refresh your whole body.  Water keeps your skin clear and will give you a little boost of energy, which can work pretty nicely as a shower substitute.

Now, I’m not encouraging skipping a shower on a regular basis, because personal hygiene is obviously a necessary life skill.  However, we live busy lives and sometimes our priorities can’t include 20 minutes to devote to showering.  Hopefully these helpful hints will alleviate any insecurities and keep your secret safe while you’re sitting in class.
