Enjoying Spring in Boston

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

The sun is shining, and you’ve got a spring in your step… That’s right, spring is here, and that means there are plenty of opportunities to get out!  Whether it be laying out or dining out, here are the top 5 ways to get your spring on in Boston!

1.  Picnic in the Common
Stroll around the park with your Mr. Darcy, pack a blanket and bring your girlfriends, or bring a baguette and Brie and get lost in your favorite new book.  There are so many ways to take advantage of the agricultural haven in the heart of the Hub.  The “Common” has been used for many different purposes throughout its long history. Until 1830, cattle grazed the Common, and until 1817, public hangouts took place here.  The same holds true today.  The Common offers the perfect atmosphere for soaking up the best of springtime

2.  Brunch in the city
You throw on your floral sundress, round up your colorfully clad companions, and strut down Newbury and try something new.  Whether it be a reservation for one, or every one on your floor, brunch is one of the best ways to catch some sun, and grab some breakfast.  Eggs sunny side up please!  Belgian waffles, eggs Benedict, fresh fruit… the options are as endless as the hot spots you can hit for some good eats.  For a front row seat to all the happenings of Newbury Street, secure a table at Sonsie, where the entire front of the restaurant opens, offering a purely European experience.

Canoodling in Cambridge?  You can’t find a better spot than Upstairs on the Square, with its funky décor, and avant-garde options, you are sure to have a unique experience.

3.  Carson Beach
This picture says it all.  Take a dip after only an hour trip away from campus!

4.  Walk to Newton Center
Newton – no, not Newton Campus – Newton Center.  This cute square offers quirky cafés, ice cream shops, and green space to catch up on your geo-science reading, made reasonably enjoyable thanks to the generous helping of Oreo Cakebatter ice cream from JP Licks.

5.  Freedom Trail
Exercise your freedom from the bonds of the Boston winter by following in the footsteps of this country’s founders via the Freedom Trail.  Pack some trail mix for snackage and mix up a new playlist to create your own epic journey.
