If you’re anything like me, you overthink things…a lot.  Whenever I’m upset about something (no matter how dumb it is) I will think about it for hours.  All this does is give me more stress, which, if you’re a college student, you don’t need any more of. Usually my go-to stress relievers are working out or talking with friends, but when I’m stressing over something in the middle of the night and can’t get my mind off of it, my stress reliever of choice is Netflix.  Here are my top 10 choices for TV shows and movies on a bad day:

TV shows:

1. Friends

A classic. My #1 go-to.  Even if you’re having a great day, a little Friends will make it even better.

2. New Girl

Focus mainly on the first few seasons! The antics of all of the characters (especially Schmidt) are guaranteed to keep you smiling.

3. Mad Men

If you’re into drama more than comedy, Mad Men is a good choice for when you’re stressed.  Odds are, your worries are not the same as those of a shady ad agency executive in the 1950s.  Sometimes it’s nice to get wrapped up in the imaginary problems of other people and take a break from focusing on your own life.

4.  How to Get Away with Murder

Not exactly a “feel-good” show, but the constant twists and turns will definitely keep your mind on the show and off of your worries.  It doesn’t hurt that Viola Davis is the absolute best.

5.  Reality TV (Vanderpump Rules, Jersey Shore, etc.)

Ok, please don’t judge me for this one.  Similar to the lives of the characters in Mad Men, the lives of reality TV stars are usually completely different from our own, so it’s easy to forget yourself and get lost in the overly-dramatic and flat out ridiculous problems of other people.

Movies:

6.  Wedding Crashers

Anything with Vince Vaughn is usually a good move when you’re feeling down (maybe except for the 1998 version of Psycho). He usually plays bubbly characters who deal with life’s problems with humor and a positive attitude, something we could all work on.

7. Legally Blonde

The montage of Elle working her butt off to get into law school after Warner told her she couldn’t is always a good scene to watch if you need some inspiration or motivation.

8. This is the End

Hilarious movie that includes basically all of the famous people you know. Can’t go wrong.

9. The Great Gatsby

This movie is visually stunning, and if you don’t find yourself distracted by the cinematography, costumes, or incredible music, I bet you can be distracted by Leonardo DiCaprio.

10.  The Parent Trap

It’s a feel-good film that will remind you of those carefree childhood days.  It’s also over two hours long, so you’ll be distracted for a while.

And remember, no matter how bad of a day you had, everything is always better in the morning, so try to get some sleep and get excited to start a new day:)
