The Best of Beyonce’s Grammy Performances

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

You’re lying if you don’t think Beyonce absolutely slays every time she takes the stage at the Grammy’s. From what this year’s calling “The Mother of all Performances” to her and Jay Z’s opening number in 2014, Beyonce never fails to impress. Being a major “Beyhive” member I’m a bit biased, but let’s take a look at the 7 Grammy performances of the Queen.

1. 2017: “Love Drought” & “Sandcastles”

Beyonce’s performance of two of her songs off her newest album “Lemonade” was breathtaking. Of course, she killed it with her vocals as usual, but something about this performance was different. Instead of her usual flawlessly choreographed dance routine, Beyonce took a more relaxed approach to the performance. This was of course not because she is lazy, but because she is pregnant with twins! Beyonce recently announced to the public she is 5 months pregnant with her and Jay Z’s twins. Perhaps next Grammy’s performance will be a family one?

2. 2014: “Drunk in Love” with Jay-Z

Who doesn’t love Beyonce and Jay Z? And what could possibly be better than them together opening the Grammy’s? Um, nothing. Beyonce killed it with her perfectly styled wet hair because who else can flawlessly walk out of the shower onto the Grammy’s stage. The performance was steamy and hot and immediately became iconic. The duo was practically perfection.

3. 2004: “Purple Rain” /”Baby I’m a Star” / “Crazy in Love” / “Let’s Go Crazy” (with Prince) “Dangerously in Love 2

Beyonce’s first solo Grammy performance was another for the books. Not only was she amazing on her own for the first time performing her hits  “Crazy in Love” and “Dangerously in Love 2,” but she also performed alongside the late icon, Prince. She performed “Dangerously in Love 2” at first then surprised the audience and came back on for a duet with Prince. And the world was never the same again.

4. 2010: “If I were a Boy” & “You Oughta Know”

2010 was the year of Beyonce Grammy nominations, where she took home 6 of her 10 nominations. As if her winnings weren’t breathtaking enough, her performance was even better. Flawless as always.

5. 2008: “Proud Mary” with Tina Turner

It wouldn’t be the 50th annual Grammy Awards without a stellar Beyonce performance. She and Tina Turner honored women with their rendition of the classic “Proud Mary.” She began alone on stage paying homage to women of music then made a quick costume change to wow the crowd with Tina Turner. Yet another stellar performance by the Queen.

5. 2015: “Take My Hand Precious Lord”

Beyonce took home three Grammy Awards for her surprise, self-titled album that year. And yet again her performance of a gospel slayed the stage. You could hear a pin drop at the end of the last note because who hears Beyonce sing a gospel song flawlessly and doesn’t lose their breath?

7. 2007: “Listen”

Lastly ranked, but certainly not last was the Beyonce of her B’day era. She took home 1 of her 4 nominations and performed her single “Listen” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

So whether you’re a BeyHive member or not, take a look at Beyonce’s past Grammy performances before you miss another one. And if you’ve seen them a million times already, what’s wrong with a million and one times?
