In case you live under a rock (or maybe in Greycliff), you’ve heard that both the men’s and women’s hockey teams are killing it as of late. Considering our lack of athletic success this year, this is something that we should be celebrating.

The women’s team had a nearly perfect season. They finished the number two team in the country with a 40-1 record; the only game they lost was their final. The women spent their season chasing perfection, setting records and earning honors along the way. With women’s sports so unattended and underappreciated, this team deserves some major love, both from Superfans and the school.

Two members of the team were honored with first team All-American honors: senior forward Alex Carpenter and sophomore defenseman Megan Keller. Senior forward Haley Skarupa was also named to the second team. Coach Katie King Crowley was named National Coach of the Year for the second straight year. Carpenter also shattered the BC single-season record for points per season, earning 85 points in 39 regular season games. Her 85 points are also the most points in Division I college hockey…that’s right, she has more points than any DI hockey player, male or female.

The men’s hockey team has also had a really impressive season. They play Harvard in Worcester this weekend as their journey to the Frozen Four in Tampa continues. After their incredible overtime Beanpot victory against BU, BC has stumbled a bit as of late, losing to Northeastern in the first round of the Hockey East finals. Despite this, they were still ranked a number two seed in the NCAA tournament and have an amazing chance to win the whole thing!

The men have also earned some recognition for their awesome season. Junior goalie Thatcher Demko was named Hockey East co-player of the year, and freshman forward Colin White was named Hockey East rookie of the year. Junior defenseman Steve Santini was also named Hockey East’s defensive player of the year. White and freshman defenseman Casey Fitzgerald were named to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team. Demko is also up for the Hobey Baker trophy, which goes to the best player in men’s college hockey. You can vote for him on Facebook on The Hobey Baker Award page!

So give your Eagles the respect and admiration they deserve…these teams have had incredible seasons and need your support to keep going!
