Fall is just around the corner here at BC, and I can’t imagine a better way to kick off everyone’s favorite season than with a big, fluffy coat. We surround ourselves with all things fluff all the time – feather pillows, faux fur blankets and puppies galore (even if it’s just following a golden retriever account on Instagram).  Aren’t we all just trying to feel warm and fuzzy inside and out?

Much to everyone’s surprise, temperatures dropped the second week of school. No more flip-flops. No more shorts. Being from Florida, I was devastated. I was so depressed about the impeding winter that I thought my roommates were going to have to peel me off my bed, dress me in a sweater, and carry me to class – dramatic, I know.

But then, something magical happened. I glanced over at my closet and saw a baby pink fluff ball of a coat that I had bought on the beach when it was well over 100 degrees. My friends and I were all walking around in bikinis and cut-offs, but it would have been a crime to leave that coat behind. I was right, because that one fluffy wonder single-handedly made me jump for joy at the mention of a 57° low.

They’re soft and comfy, bold and superbly obnoxious, and can be found in all shapes, colors, and sizes. If something can be perfected by both the Spice Girls and Kanye West, it is very, very important. I am going to assume that it’s everyone’s dream to be as calm, cool, and collected as Kanye while also singing “zig-a-zig-ahhhh” into a hairbrush, and buying a fluffy coat might be exactly what you need to accomplish this.

Fluffy coats can be fur, faux, cotton, bouclé, and shag – anything your heart desires. The real defining factor of the fluffy coat is texture. It can make a head-to-toe black outfit dynamic, and can add a little femininity to ripped jeans, black leather, or metallic studs. Fluffy coats are oh-so-cozy, and whether you opt for a low-key neutral or a va-va-voom hot pink number, you’re sure to be turning heads and making a statement.
