5 Cute and Easy Easter Treats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With Easter just around the corner it’s time to start planning what you and the entirety of your family is going to eat. This time of year it is exciting to see all the cute and colorful decorations that ring in spring and Easter, and it can make you kind of jealous to see everyone else’s creativity shine. Luckily, these Easter ideas are super easy while still managing to look incredible. So, if you want to impress your friends with some festive food, try out these treats.

1. Easter Candy Popcorn

If you’re looking for a last minute snack to put out for your guests but don’t really have time to make something, this is the perfect choice. It’ll take about 3 minutes to make, but it’ll taste delicious. All you have to do is pop a bag of popcorn (or even dump a bag of store bought popcorn into a stylish bowl) and add some sweet treats. You can add holiday favorites like chocolate eggs, Easter M&Ms, chocolate chips, and more. The result is a tasty snack that is both sweet and salty but completely yummy!

2. Rice Krispie nests

These adorable little nests fit right into the spirit of new beginnings and rebirth. They brighten up an otherwise boring snack and add some color to the table. To make them, you’ll need…

  • 3 tablespoons of butter

  • 4 cups of mini marshmallows or a whole bag of big marshmallows

  • 6 cups of Rice Krispie Treats

  • a small cupcake tin

Melt the butter in a pan and then add the marshmallows. Stir the marshmallows until it’s a smooth mixture, then stir in the Rice Krispies. Let the mixture cool down for about three minutes then roll it out on a piece of wax paper. To make the nests, flip over the cupcake tin so that the bottom part is upright. Then, take a piece of the marshmallow treats and place it over the bottom of the pan so that it molds to the shape of the cupcake tin, with a hollowed out center. Continue to do this for the remaining marshmallow treats and then fill them with your choice of candy like jellybeans or chocolate easter eggs.

3. Chocolate Peeps

These cute little desserts are quite a lot of sugar, so if you’re looking to get through the rest of your holiday without falling asleep, try one of these. All you have to do is melt some chocolate, any kind and all kinds that you like, take a peep and put it on a cute little straw, then dip it in the chocolate so that it is completely covered. Place them on a piece of wax paper and plop a little marshmallow on the end to act as a tail. Let the chocolate dry for about 15 minutes, then serve them up to your guests for a sugary surprise.

4. “Carrot” Oreo Cups

For this yummy dessert, you’ll need some chocolate pudding cups, some crushed up Oreos, melted white chocolate, food coloring, and strawberries. What you’re going to do is put the food coloring in the melted white chocolate to turn it into the nice orange color of a carrot, then dip the strawberries into this new orange mixture. If you want to add some pizazz to the strawberry, try making carrot lines across it by taking a spoon and drizzling chocolate back and forth horizontally across the strawberry. When the chocolate on the strawberries has hardened, place them in the pudding cups then sprinkle in the crushed Oreos for an earthy look. Not only is this adorable, but it’s tasty too!

5. Rice Krispie Hidden Surprise Egg

Not only are these great to eat, but they’re fun to play with too! All you have to do to make this cool dessert is make your marshmallow treats like in number 2 on this list, then put them into a (washed out and clean) plastic easter egg. Once they’re inside, you can take a spoon and hollow out the inside of each half. After you’ve done this, remove them from the egg and fill one half with a candy of your choice. Then, you can either leave the two halves open next to each other on a plate so everyone can see, or you can put the two halves together and give them out to unsuspecting guests to open and enjoy.

Whatever your plans for Easter, these will make preparing food for the entire family just a bit easier, and even fun! And when you are done you’ll not only have some really tasty treats, you will also have some aesthetically pleasing instagram snaps to show off to your followers.
