10 Things You Should Know about Dance Ensemble!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

You’ve definitely seen them before- whether they’re performing on stage or running around campus advertising for a show- but do you really know DE? Check out this list to find out some of the awesome facts about this unbelievably talented group of dancing divas.

1. The average DE member practices 15 hours per week!

That’s right, fifteen hours. Imagine how many episodes you could watch on Netflix during that time? These girls are seriously dedicated, but it’s obvious that their hard work pays off!

2. DE is our oldest dance groupDE will be turning the big three-five next semester! So that’s 35 years of wow-ing BC with their crazy choreography and stellar shows. Knowing them, they’ll be throwing an awesome bash to celebrate the big day.

3. They have serious diverse dance styles. Tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, pointe? They’ve got it all. One time, they even had some belly dancing! Regardless of what dance style you’re looking for, DE is sure to have it.

4. Did someone say diva dance off?Last year, DE had their shining moment at Showdown with a diva dance off. Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Queen B battled it out on stage, and it was an unforgettable performance. Check it out!

5. They have an annual retreat!Every year after they choose new freshmen, DE goes off-campus and has a sleep over! They watch last year’s show, play get to know you games, and spend time bonding as a team. Everyone loves a girls’ night in!

6. GAs

GAs(noun): Pronounced like “jaw,” GA stands for guardian angel. During the week before the show, each DE member has a GA who surprises her with a fun gift each day.  Some examples include good luck posters, Starbucks, and mixed CDs. It’s like Secret Santa, only way better.

7. Green Room TraditionsPrior to each show, DE meets in the green room backstage and reads letters from alumni.  Right before they leave to perform, they stand in a circle, hold hands and “pass the scream.” It’s an awesome way to de-stress and get pumped up for the show!

8. Hilarious Promotion

DE has no shame dressing crazily to publicize the show during show week! If you’re walking through the Quad, you certainly won’t miss them in their bubblegum pink and black! Be sure to stop by and say hello because: 1) It’s freezing out and 2) Free tickets to the best dancers!

9. Dance Ensemble Cast Party

The last night of their show, Dance Ensemble has a Cast Party for the teams who performed with them! They get dressed up in “show colors” and celebrate their hard work for the week. Who knows, maybe if you show up with your ticket, they’ll even let you in!(Disclaimer: That’s a joke. I mean, you’re more than welcome to try, but I’m not guaranteeing anything.)

10. Their shows are December 5th and 6th

DE will be joined by Masti and Fuego for an insanely awesome show. ALL ticket proceeds go to the Campus School! For those of you who don’t know, the Campus School is a school for students ages 3-21 with severe disabilities and complex healthcare needs. DE continues to be amazingly supportive of and involved with the Campus School.
