10 Things You Can Do to Have Your Best Valentine’s Day as a Single Girl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Valentine’s Day can suck, but it doesn’t have to! If you’re single and looking to change up your usual Valentine’s Day routine of watching The Notebook in your pajamas, here are a few things you can do to have your best Valentine’s Day with yourself.

  1. Eat your favorite foods

Take this day to appreciate your love for food and treat yourself to some of your favorites! Whether this means cooking for yourself, ordering in, or going out to your favorite restaurant, eating some of your favorite foods will remind you of the little things you value in life like that $6 burrito you’d trade so many things for.

  1. Watch a movie

When it comes to watching movies, there is no wrong way… and you can decide whether to watch some of your old school favorites from the comfort of your own bed, or venture out to a theatre and check out that one movie everyone’s been talking about. If you’re having a hard time finding a movie to watch, try looking through BC’s movie streaming website.

  1. Give yourself a spa day

If you’re spending your Valentine’s day in, why not pamper yourself with some DIY face masks, hair masks and body scrubs. You’ll feel refreshed and amazing inside and out, ready to take on whatever life throws at you. Great recipes can be found all over Pinterest and other websites and if you’re not in a DIY mood, take a trip to your nearest LUSH or drugstore for some ready to use products.

  1. Dress up for yourself!

Even if you have nowhere to go, dressing up will have you feeling confident and energized. If you prefer sweatpants over skirts, that’s perfectly fine too! The point of this is to wear what makes you feel the most beautiful, whether it’s your power suit or your birthday suit. Just remember to at least throw a trench coat on if you have to run an errand and clothes aren’t a priority.

  1. Spend time with your family and friends

If you’re feeling a little lonely this Valentine’s Day, take some time to see your friends and family. You will be reminded of the people you love and love you back dearly.

  1. Read a good book

If you’re looking to just pass time this Valentine’s Day, try picking up a book you’ve been interested in reading. Textbooks don’t count! Unless you’re really that invested in your organic chemistry book, try looking for something you would really enjoy reading. I would personally try to steer clear of all things Nicholas Sparks, but if that is something you want to get yourself into, by all means, go for it.

  1. Revisit some old hobbies

Maybe this Valentine’s Day you’ve decided to reflect on yourself. You want to be the best version of yourself and Valentine’s Day is basically just your second New Year to truly claim “new year, new me,” where all of your broken January resolutions have been forgiven. If that’s the case, try revisiting some old hobbies you may have lost time for throughout your life journey. If that’s not something you’re up for, try finding a new hobby that you may not have thought you were ready for earlier in your life.

  1. Go to a karaoke club

If you’re shy about singing, take this as an opportunity to face your fears and get up on stage, Worse comes to worse, you will most likely never see any of the people there again anyways. If you’re still not at that stage (pun intended), invite some friends over to your place for a fun game of “Sing It.” Even if you’re not a singer, it’s always fun cheer for your friends or other Karaoke club attendees.

  1. Take a day trip (hike, travel to a nearby town, etc.)

Take a solo trip to go hiking or adventuring in a nearby town. You will get to discover some new places, see some new sights, and have the day to just relax and think about whatever you might have going on in your life.

  1. Sleep

If you flat out want to avoid Valentine’s Day at all costs, just sleep and the day will go by much faster. On the bright side, when you wake up the next day, all of the chocolate will be half off!

Instead of wallowing in self pity and reblogging forever alone posts on your secret tumblr account this Valentine’s Day, try doing something for yourself and be your own Valentine! Who knows? You may just end up falling in love with yourself.
