Whether he is on the stage performing with the ManOps, tearing up the ice in a hockey game, or just hanging around campus, this kid is sure to make you smile. After asking him a bunch of fun questions, HCB is proud to present the famously friendly Nile Rabb as this week’s campus celebrity.

Name: Nile (El Rio Nilo) Rabb

Grade: Senior + another semester (victory lap ftw)

Major: Politics

Hometown: Stamford, CT

Where you live at Bates: 77 Nichols

Three words your friends would use to describe you: Loyal, humorous, easy-going.

Hobbies: Relishing in nature, playing ice hockey and soccer, watching football, singing, watching ‘flix & hbo go, of course, making food (my omelettes are delectable), and enjoying time with close family and friends. I also dabble in the occasional snowball fight.

What you want to do after graduation: I’m not really too sure, but either something related to my major in international affairs, possibly working with kids for a bit, anything in sports, or anything in music.

Things you are involved with on-campus: Ice hockey, the Manic Optimists, and being the voice and pride of the women’s soccer team.

One thing you would change about Bates: More students or bring back the mugs.

One thing you would never change about Bates: Short Term. (And I would never change the friendly atmosphere).

Why you decided to join an acapella group: I always have loved singing and thought it could be a good way to get over stage fright and meet people. Pitch Perfect also gave me a lot of inspiration…

The Manic Optimists

Favorite musician/ musical group: I’ve got too many, so I’ll give you my top 5 in no specific order: Frank Ocean, Miguel, Drake, C-Breezy, Outkast… shout out to Kanye, though.

Something that no one knows about you: I’ve never broken a bone. (I could’ve easily jinxed myself here…)

Your favorite thing about being a senior: Living off campus with my boys and feeling a greater sense of maturity.

Life motto: “Send it or get sent.”

3 things you can’t live without: Music, food, and good clean fun.

Celebrity crush: I hope I won’t be judged, but I’ve got more than one (in no specific order): Lauren London, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Rihanna.

Your go-to pick up line: “Do you like pizza?!”

Best movie you’ve ever seen: Shawshank Redemption or City of God

Advice for underclassmen: Appreciate the present, because things will fall into place eventually.

Jane is a senior at Bates College, majoring in English and minoring in History. Outside of class, she dances ballet and practices yoga, religiously listens to Dave Matthews Band, and is a firm believer that dark chocolate acts as a well-rounded meal.
